Action Plan for Inle Lake Conservation (2015-2019)

Hatfield provided support to the Burmese government for the preparation of a five year conservation action plan for Inle lake, which included critical sites, proposed activities, estimated costs, resource inputs, and a monitoring and evaluation framework. (Jun 2014 – Nov 2014)

Developed materials for facilitating strategic planning meetings of the government, academic, community and inter-governmental (United Nations) stakeholders; conducted analysis of meeting outcomes; prepared reports; and authored sections of the Draft Action Plan.

Training on Communication and Presentation of Research Findings

Hatfield provided training to researchers and staff on how to effectively communicate research findings to different audiences (fellow academics, government officials, general public, etc.) to affect change in society. (Nov 2013 – April 2014)

Technical Assistance for Mainstreaming Climate Resilience into Development Planning in Cambodia

This project aimed at building the capacity of Cambodian institutions and policy makers to address the impacts of climate change by integrating climate resilience into development planning. (Jun 2013 – April 2014)

ed

Conducted research, wrote various sections, and coordinated work for the successful development of the technical proposal for this $ 3.5 million grant project from Climate Investment Funds – the current largest funding source for climate change projects in developing countries. Upon winning this project, I was involved in the kick-off mission, inception workshop, national climate change capacity assessment, policy analysis, gender assessment, and developing project reports.

Cambodia-China-Australia Cooperation for Improved Irrigation in Cambodia

Project Descripti

on & Duration

This project supported exchange visits for key official and experts from China, Cambodia, and Australia. The visits to the three countries provided an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and experience about irrigation, with the aim of generating information about the technical capacity, current practices, and existing and planned activities for a possible capacity development project in the Cambodian irrigation sector. (Apr 2013 – April 2014)

Fostering Evidence-based Integrated Water Resource Management in the Stung Pursat catchment

The project explored ways of improving cross-sectoral collaboration and using new and existing data to make informed decisions for more integrated water resource management in the Pursat catchment in Cambodia. (Nov 2012 – February 2014)

Provided technical support to the project, including conducting research, writing reports, collaborating with relevant government officials, assisting in managing the project budget, hiring sub-contractors, liaising with clients, and organizing and conducting multi-stakeholder platform workshops - a key mechanism for convening different sectors and stakeholders to discuss and deliver actions on water resources management challenges in the catchment.

Improving Water Governance and Climate Change Adaptation in Cambodia

Project Descriptio

This project explored strategies for improving water governance and climate change adaptation in Cambodia. Specifically, the project conducted research to identify and fill gaps in vulnerability and adaptation studies in Cambodia; examine the joint impacts of climate change and the extensive hydrological development in the Mekong region on the country’s water and related resources; and find institutional and governance solutions to manage these challenges. (Nov 2012 – April 2014)

Provided training to national team members on key concepts of climate change and water governance, authored sections of various technical reports, supported vulnerability assessments in select provinces of Cambodia and analysed results, and provided technical support to develop various project reports.

Technical Assistance on Science-based Adaptation Planning and Outreach Activities in Cambodia

Project Descripti

on & Duration

The objective of this project was to develop a pilot program for building climate resilience in Cambodia. Hatfield supported two specific components of the project: science-based adaptation planning (Component 4) and outreach and information enhancement (Component 5). (Dec 2012 – Mar 2013)

Provided technical support for Components 4 & 5 of PPCR Phase I, including conducting research, writing reports, making arrangements for high-level multi-stakeholder conferences, and working closely with the Ministry of Environment and other relevant Cambodian partners. I also helped in organizing the final workshop of this project, which was attended by high-level government officials, ADB, and various CSOs and NGOs.
