1. Complete your profile– Use your résumé summary or a short bio– List employers, and a brief overview of each role using the PAR model – Include past companies and affiliations– List technical skills and strengths that relate to qualifications for targeted roles– List academic institutions and degrees– Upload a business appropriate photo

2. Get Recommendations– From former managers and colleagues

3. Invite 20 or more connections– Adding connections increases the likelihood of your profile coming up near the

top when a recruiter/hiring manager does a search4. Improve Your Google PageRank

– Create a public profile and select “Full View.” Also, instead of using the default URL, customize your public profile’s URL to be your actual name

– Use this link in your Email signature– Link your web site or blog to your profile

5. Join Professional and Alumni Groups– You can connect directly to any group member

6. Find Out Where People With Your Background Are Working– Use advanced people search to find where people with similar skills in your

geography have been hired

7. Get to the Hiring Manager– Search LinkedIn Jobs to find the names of hiring managers– Look at the list of people in your network who work for that company or

know the hiring manager

8. Research Employee Career Paths & If A Company is Hiring– “Company Profiles” tell you where people have gone after leaving a company

and also includes a section called “New Hires”– “Company Profiles” also show you the career path of employees before they

worked they worked at their present company

9. Get the Word Out– Tell your network that you’re looking for a job and what your looking for
