Fellow Exchangites!

Here we are already in the third quarter of the Exchange year – and what a good one it has been.

The clubs across the board are recruiting and retaining well, so keep up the good work! In order to keep up the momentum, your District leadership has once again planned for three opportunities to share ideas and techniques to attract new members, energize current members, and better serve our communities.

The fi rst of three District Leadership Workshops, February 10, 2018, was held in West Chester, Ohio. VFR Russ Finney led the high energy team of presenters. All the local club leaders who attended were effusive in their praise of the topics and were eager to return to share those ideas with their respective clubs. Look for more details in this issue of the Link for the next offerings as we bring the District’s educators to a city near you!

Speaking of the District, there will be quite a few opportunities for current club leaders to “step up” to the District level of service. Each year we elect three District Board members with the title of Division Director for a two year term. These Directors are responsible for communicating with, training, and supporting their clubs with District and National resources as necessary. There is training offered by the District to help them prepare.

This year at the District Convention in Columbus, Ohio on June 2nd, 2018, we will elect the even number Directors. Division Two represents Bowling Green, Lima, Findlay, and Bellefontaine Clubs. Division Four represents Fremont, Fremont St. Joseph Excel Club, Maumee, and Perrysburg. Division Six represents Springfi eld, Dayton, West Chester, Eastern Hills Cincinnati, and Northwest Cincinnati. The current serving Directors are not running for re-election.

We will have a fourth vacancy for Division Five as well. This Division represents Canton, Dover, Mt. Vernon/Knox County, Orrville, and Wooster.

Ann Culver, our fabulous Treasurer has elected not to run for this position again. Thank you Ann for your years of service! We can’t fi nd words that express enough our admiration and appreciation.

The position of President-Elect for the next administration is open. This person will help current President-Elect Ginny Williams of Mt. Vernon/Knox as she automatically assumes the Presidency on July 1, 2018. This is a one year term and a three year commitment as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. It is a great honor to serve in these capacities and very rewarding. Will you help lead your District?

If you are a member of one these clubs and would like more information about becoming a Director or an offi cer, please send me an e-mail or call me. My contact information is on the last page of this Link.

2017-2018 National President Elect Scot Warren presents agavel to Ginny Williams, Mt. Vernon/Knox County, OH/WVDistrictPresidentElect,attheMidWinterSummitinReno,NV.

PresidentLettercontinued...

Earn your Exchange Ambassador pin when you sponsor a new member. Ask someone today to join your club!

You will need an energy drink or two to match 21 year old President Tom Jennings of the Dover club. Since August 1, 2017, Tom has sponsored EIGHT new members. We bow to your singular leadership and enthusiasm for Exchange. Tom is EXCHANGE STRONG!

It is not too late to start planning to attend the District Convention in June. Please note the information in this edition of the Link.

Keep up the good work as you, “Inspire your community to be a better place to live.”

March-Clubsandmembersmayconsider:• Celebrating Exchange’s 107th anniversary on March 27th! Hold a community-wide public awareness event featuring your local club, invite neighboring clubs, and club members. Guests of honor could include the mayor, the chief of police, the fi re chief, city council members, and possibly an unsung community hero!• Looking ahead to April, Child Abuse Prevention Month. Reach out to billboard companies now for CAP Month PSAs!• In addition to planning for Believe in the Blue, consider materials that can help spread awareness in your community (fi nd your items at the Exchange Marketplace). Contact National Headquarters for information about renting Time Out Teddy for your event!

AprilisNationalChildAbusePreventionAwarenessMonth:• Observe Blue Mondays!• Share the message of Time Out Teddy; plan a project to distribute brochures at all of your community service and fundraising events this month.• Think May - Freedom Shrine Month! Dedicating, or rededicating, an existing Freedom Shrine, and replacing worn documents is a thoughtful way to memorialize the founding documents of our great country.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President for 2017-2018.Beverly A. SewellDistrict President

2018 DISTRICT CONVENTION

June 1-2, 2018

More information will be forwarded to

all clubs early in 2018!

Hello Fellow Exchangites!

I can’t wait until tomorrow. No, it’s not that I get better looking each day. (Getting older Yes). No, it’s that I have an opportunity, through Exchange Club activities, to make my community a better place to live.

I know you feel the same way. The projects, fundraisers, and your community service makes us all feel good. That, fellow Exchangites, is what we are all about! As I have said many times through the Region and across the country, it’s not about what we do……but how we do attract new clubs, new members, retain those great members we have, and develop good leaders. I can’t imagine your community without your Exchange Club!

We have a great advantage over other service clubs in that we have an Exchange Strong staff in Toledo! We have the best website in the realm of service clubs. I would strongly encourage each Exchange Club to study and learn how to use the website as a tool for training, recruitment, retention and club building! If you have not used the National Exchange Club website… LOG ON TO www.nationalexchangeclub.org.

If you need some assistance call our Exchange Strong National Staff at 1-800-XCHANGE. You will hear a professional that is always eager to help!

Thank you for all that you do! Jeffry L. Young, RVP 7

2017-2018 OH/WV DISTRICT YOUTH AWARDSI bring to your attention the Program of Service we offer called YouthoftheYearandACEawards. These two youth programs are the most discussed by Exchangites when talking about activities of a club. Each year we accept applications, available on the National Exchange web site (nationalexchange.org), which are judged by a panel of judges. A youth from each catego-ry will be selected and then each will receive a $1000 award at our District Convention, this year being June 1-2, 2018. If you have never participated we encourage you to do so and of course we offer you our help in making your program a success. All the information regarding Youth of the Year and ACE programs are explained in detail on the National web site or can be obtained from your Division Director. I, as co-chair of the programs for the District, will be accepting completed applications until April 15, 2018. The applications must be inmyhandsby that date, no later. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email, [email protected] by phone 419-782-9052. I look forward to working with you to again make this one of the highlights of our convention. Thanks again for all you do in your community and for Exchange

Ann and Floyd Culver, YoY/ACE co-chairperson

FIFTH ANNUAL DISTRICT “DESIGN OUR PIN” CONTEST Each year the district designs and produces a distinctive pin, representative of our district’s unique gifts and attrib-utes. The pins are highly prized mementos and are exchanged with great gusto within the district and at our national convention. For the fifth year, we are asking our great members for their input on this project. We are asking for your help in the design of the pin. It could have something to do with our state, with a well known Ohio celebrity, or a theme in conjunction with the National Convention being in Reno this July. Be creative! From now until April 1st, all you have to do is draw something up and submit to John Fetters. We will choose a winner, and send off for the final design. The pin should be ready for the district convention in June. The winner of the contest will receive a free registration to the district convention in Columbus on June 1st. Past Winners include Larry Sewell and Andy Kittles, both of the Spring-field Club. Below are images of several district pins over the past few years. Send to John Fetters at: [email protected] by April 1, 2018.
