While Cuba is opening up to the World, Cuba Underground is tracking the alternative places of the island, searching for a new rebellious generation. At the borders of legality, skaters, graffers, punks, stylists and tattoo artists are hijacking symbols and adapting the new trends in order to make Havana a true cultural capital again. Cuba Underground is taking us to meet these new cultural movements and their main representatives, allowing us to discover this other face of the island as revolutionary as ever.

One of the most important artists of our era, Ryuichi Sakamoto has had a prolific career spanning over four decades, from techno-pop stardom to Oscar-winning film composer. The evolution of his music has coincided with his life journeys. Following Fukushima, Sakamoto became an iconic figure in Japan’s social movement against nuclear power. As Sakamoto returns to music following cancer, his haunting awareness of life crises leads to a resounding new masterpiece. RYUICHI SAKAMOTO: CODA is an intimate portrait of both the artist and the man.

Who is Pierre Richard? Is he, as is believed by some, the veritable double of François Perrin, a cult character he invented and for whom he often successfully donned the costume and assumed the blunders? Can he simply be reduced to the unlucky hero of La Chèvre (Knock on Wood) or to the Grand Blond (The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe)? Focusing on Pierre Richard the author, the film draws the portrait of a discrete poet whose complexity, artistic desires and commitments have disappeared behind the immensity of his success.

By taking up Marc Fischer’s quest, following his steps one by one, thanks to all the clues he left us, we pursue João Gilberto to understand the history, the very soul and essence of Bossa Nova. But who can tell whether we will meet him or not?

Propaganda is a series of short documentaries with the intention of decoding, in a scathing, offbeat way, the marketing techniques used to ensure the success of star products. Each episode equates to a critique of one particular method and is based on an existing “product” & marketing campaign (a NASA mission, the Donald Trump campaign, the launch of Star Wars, Lucky Strike etc.).

In 1912-1913, movie pioneer Gaston Méliès, brother of Georges Méliès, did a ten-month long trip around Asia-Pacific, shooting both documentaries and fictions on location in Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia, Java, Singapore, Cambodia and Japan. He wanted the “real” thing” he filmed, with the locals, being one of the first to give Polynesians, Maoris, Aborigines and Khmers a chance to appear on screen. His hybrid cinema dealt with questions of alterity, identity and representation.

With his gauche manner and his slender figure, Stewart embodies a successful life. Mitchum, with his legendary nonchalance and his hangdog look, is more like the naughty kid. When they shared top billing in the 1978 film The Big Sleep, these two actors, certainly did not suspect that they would both embark upon eternal sleep on almost the same day in 1997. What heritage have these two Hollywood legends left behind, and how did their particular qualities feed the American dream?
