FFA is an intercurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of three components of agricultural education.

The Purpose of the FFA is to develop:

We have contests and events that help to develop these:• LDE’s : Leadership Development EventsThese are contests that are held in the fall each year they are centered around speaking events, agriculture FFA knowledge and parliamentary procedure. • Being able to communicate effectively and how to present yourself is

a great confidence booster!

• CDE’s : Career development eventsThese events are held in the spring and are designed to provide students with knowledge that will prepare them for specific agriculture jobs

Many students chose to use the skills they learn in CDE contest in college and in their careers.

Camps and Conferences

• FFA members have opportunities to attend the following camps and conferences:• Chapter FFA meetings and banquet• District FFA meetings and banquet• Greenhand FFA camp• Area FFA convention• Area FFA leadership camp• State FFA convention• Chapter FFA officer retreat

SAE projects

• Showing livestock animals is a common supervised agriculture experience “SAE” that students choose.

Livestock projects are a great way to teach students responsibility, organization, and sportsmanship.Many parents enjoy the process as well because they get to spend time with their children. The most successful individuals are generally those whose entire family is involved with their projects

Record Keeping

• Part of the SAE project is record keeping• We use a online system called AET, online record books are required

to receive your Lonestar degree

• There are scholarships available through the FFA • These require you to be very active in every aspect of FFA including

community service projects• The first step is to get involved.
