Principal’s Message
A spectacular performance – ‘The Greatest Show’!
Last Thursday night our choir beautifully represented our school as part
of the massed choir of 550 students in the Ryde Schools Spectacular.
This prestigious event at the Sydney Opera House showcased the
talents from over 23 primary and high schools. Congratulations to our
choir, Ms Miggins and Miss Zhan on your outstanding performance!
Special
congratulations go
to Michaela H for
being a featured
vocalist during
‘The Place Where
Lost Things Go’.
Planning for 2020
A note went home yesterday to all students in Kindergarten to Year 5
as part of our planning for 2020. If you know that your child is leaving
the school or will be returning after Wednesday 29 January please
complete the form and return it to the school office. If your child will
be returning after 11 February 2020, you will need to complete an
Application for Extended Leave which can be found on the school
website under the ‘Notes’ tab or may be collected from the Office.
Student numbers are needed for us to plan staffing and classes for
next year. Thank you for your cooperation.

Deputy Principals’ Message
National History Challenge
Last Thursday Zara W attended the 'National History Challenge' award ceremony at the ANZAC
Memorial, Hyde Park. Zara was presented with a certificate and medal for being the 'Year 4 NSW Young
Historian' for 2019 by the president of the History Teachers Association of NSW. Congratulations to Zara
and her family for such an outstanding achievement!
Our thanks go to Mr Katrak for representing Lindfield PS at the presentation assembly and for all of his
work in preparing Zara for this competition.
Year 1’s Outstanding Homework!
Homework is an important task that we each complete in order to reinforce and revise all the things that
we learn at school. Congratulations to all these Year 1 students who have an exemplary homework
record this year by receiving ‘outstanding’ on their effort chart. Great to see you taking pride in one of the
most important school skills.
Band Try Outs
Yesterday we were treated to
a Halloween Flash Mob as
our bands played some
spooky tunes on our
playgrounds. A reminder that
if you want to join Band or
Strings you must apply
online. Please see the Band
and Strings pages further on
in this addition of the Lines.
BYOD iPad Information Night - Tonight
In 2020, we will continue the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) program in all
of Stage 3. This program allows for collaboration and it redefines learning.
We will be hosting a Parent Information Session tonight at 6:30pm in the
School Hall. The aim of this session is to explain how the iPads will be used
in the classroom in Stage 3 and provide parents with helpful ways to manage
their child’s iPad use at home. If you are a parent of a child who is moving
into Stage 3 in 2020, this will be a valuable session for you to attend.
K-2 Athletics Carnival
The annual K-2 Athletics Carnival is on tomorrow - Thursday 31 October. The K-2 carnival is a fun, non-
competitive day with an emphasis on participation and enjoyment. You are welcome to join us from
12:00pm onwards with a picnic lunch. Please send your child in their sports uniforms with hats and
sunscreen. Students will play some fantastic games and have some races on the Ginkgo, Maple and Palm
playgrounds. Make sure not to miss what is always a wonderful day.
Nude Food Day
On Tuesday 5 November the SRC and Garden Club are
organising our very first LPS Nude Food Day. The aim of Nude
Food Day is to try and reduce the huge amount of waste that we
send to landfill. We would like students to try and have all their
food packed into reusable containers instead of plastic bags,
aluminium foil or plastic.
Kindergarten Orientation Sessions
The first of our Kindergarten Orientation sessions will take place on
Thursday 7 November. Parents are asked to drop students off at the
appropriate classroom promptly at 9:30am, as will be indicated in an
email which will be sent out later this week. Parents will then head to
the hall to hear from guest speakers. At 10:30am parents will then
tour the school with their children, guided by our very capable Year 5
and 6 students. Our Kindergarten 2020 students will ‘stamp’ their
passport as they find and visit various areas of our school.
At this stage, it is expected that all enrolment documents for Kindergarten students beginning in 2020 have
been submitted to the front office. It is imperative that this is done as soon as possible in order to plan the
Orientation Sessions.
Life Education Van
This term we have Healthy Harold and Libby from Life Education visiting us
again. Students will spend a session in the van learning the tools they need to
make well informed and educated decisions about leading a healthy and safe
life.

Please ensure all children with anaphylaxis and other medical
conditions hand in their updated Action Plans. Kindly ask your
doctors to sign, stamp and date them. The school needs to
receive a coloured copy of the Action Plan for our health
records. All students with a known medical condition must

Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2019, we have a small number of children who could have a potentially life
threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that
these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Please note, no students are allowed to bring
glass bottles to school for safety reason

P&C FAMILY CONTRIBUTIONS
Thank you to all the families who have already paid their voluntary P&C family contribution. The Voluntary
Family Contributions are our biggest variable item in the P&C budget and these payments will go towards
projects to enhance our school, just as contributions from past LPS families have paid for items and
infrastructure that your children are using today. Payments can be made via the P&C website
www.lpspandc.org.au. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your continued
support.

LINDFIELD LAPS - SAVE THE DATE! 24 NOVEMBER 8:00-12:30
Join us for the Pool’s major fundraiser of the year. We need the whole school community involved –
students, ex-students, parents, teachers and friends of LPS.
How does it work? A team of swimmers complete as many laps of the pool as they can in 40 minutes.
There is no minimum or maximum number of laps that each team member may swim.
Who can be in my team? Anybody! A team has a maximum of 5 members and can be your friends, mum,
dad, grandparents, aunt, uncle, siblings…
Do I need to be a good swimmer? No! We’ve had young ones on noodles, fabulous grandparents and
everyone in-between. It’s about having fun with friends and family and raising much needed funds for our
school pool.

Strings
Strings Trial Day – Monday 11 November – Registrations closing
this Friday
Thank you to all the families who have already registered their children for the Strings Trial Day on
Monday 11 November (2-3pm). Parents are not required to be present during the trial but are of course
welcome to attend. Our volunteers will collect the children from their classroom and will take the children to
their trial session.
If your child is interested in the Strings Trial, please register here: https://forms.gle/ngGX3K7BsPxNesKd9 .
Registrations for the trial will close this Friday 1 November. No late registration will be accepted as we
need time to work out a schedule for the sessions.
What is the Strings Trial Day?
The Strings Trial Day is for students interested in joining the 2020 Strings Program, particularly to those who
are new to Strings and are unsure about which instrument they might want to play. Students will have the
opportunity to try out the violin, cello and/or viola.
We will also be looking for parent helpers to help the trial run smoothly. Please let us know if you can
assist. Thanks to those that have already put their hand up to help.
Hired instruments required Monday 11 November
We ask that all families that have hired a violin, cello or viola from the Strings Program, please deliver these
instruments to the School Hall COLA between 8:30am and 9am on Monday 11 November. We will be
using these instruments for the Strings Trial. In addition, we will use this opportunity to check all the
instruments and flag them for future maintenance (bows, strings etc).
The instrument can then be picked up again at the School Hall from 3pm in time for the afternoon
rehearsals.
Mozart’s first performance – Thursday 7 November
Come support our marvelous Mozart musicians at their inaugural performance on Thursday 7 November at
2pm at the K-2 Assembly.
Music Spectacular – Friday 29 November – volunteers please!
We thank Helen H (from Strings) and Geraldine W (from Band) on kindly agreeing to help organise our LPS
Music Spectacular to be held Friday 29 November. In order for the event to run smoothly, we are asking for
several parent volunteers from each ensemble to help in the lead up to the event and/or on the day.

Band
Registrations for Junior Band 2020 close tonight - don’t miss out!
Today is your last chance to register for JB 2020 so if your child is interested and in Years 2-5, please click
on the link below to sign up!
Junior Band 2020 Registration
All registered children will then attend the Instrument Matching Day on Friday 1 November to explore the
different instruments and determine the one best suited to them.
If you have any questions at all, please contact us on the Band Convenor email below.
There are plenty of reasons to come along to the Band Committee Meeting
tonight at 7:30pm
I don’t think I have time to commit to it….
There’s a huge variety of roles to be filled with various amounts of time required - you can choose
one that suits your busy schedule - or better yet, grab a friend and share a role!
I wouldn’t know the difference between a trumpet or a trombone…...
There is absolutely no musical experience needed to join the Committee whatsoever - that’s what
our exceptional team of Conductors and Tutors are for! The Committee is a team of wonderful
parents and we support each other and learn as we go.
Someone else will step up….
If everyone thinks this, we won’t have a full Committee to deliver the Program as we know it in
2020. It takes people to make things happen - we need you to ensure our remarkable Band Program
continues to thrive for your children into the future!
Even if you’re still not sure - grab a friend and please come along to the last meeting of the year to meet the
team. Refreshments and great company await from 7.30pm in the Staff Room.
~ Many hands make light work ~ see you there!

Chess
The LPS Junior Chess Championship was held last Friday with 20 eager Year 2's. We were a bit concerned
as they seemed more eager for the chess than the food or the lucky dip draw!
After five rounds we had lucky dip prizes to spare (some members didn't want a lucky dip prize) and a
winner!
Congratulations Rusi our 2019 Junior Chess Champion with 5 wins out of 5! Runner ups were Theo and
David (4 wins out of 5) - well done. Special mentions to Alex, Aaron and Celine too with 3.5 wins.
This Friday we have our LPS Senior Chess Championships which promises to be our biggest ever - over 70
competitors in the Library.
Next Monday our senior groups will go to Wahroonga PS to compete in the NSW JCL One Day tournament
playoffs - this will be challenging!

2020 School Travel Applications Now Open
To assist with any enquiries you may receive regarding student travel applications, we have provided
some information below.
Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.
Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:
are continuing at the same school
are residing at the same address
have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their
entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will
receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to
https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are
updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31
December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to
be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will
receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.
