Work is Being Done Twice.
• In the STAT process– Progress is being monitored– Data colleted– Forms completed– Written notice to parent– Paper forms in file to document– ….Then special ed. teacher is having to re-
enter all this information into ISTART7 for documentation in the written notice to parent
USE ISTART7 From The Beginning
• Use ISTART7 to collect data and create forms
• Case Conference Coordinators grant access
• Information is recorded under the evaluation tab
10 Current Forms Can Be Completed on ISTART7
• See handout on reverse side titled “Blank Form/ISTART7 Conversion Chart”
Initial Evaluation Permission Form R104- REVISED
• Destroy forms dated Aug. 2009!• Use ISTART7 for written consent.
– AUTOMATICALLY calculates the test/observations you need for the disability and the timeline
– Less errors are made
• If a paper copy is needed use From R104-Jan. 2010.– Use eligibility chart to select the test/observations
ISTART7 Data Collection
Parent permission not needed for STAT. Must be notified of intervention, what will document adequate progress and over what period of time.
Answer to Questions Drive Timelines
• “The student failed to make adequate progress after an appropriate period of time in RTI…”– Answer no: 50 day timeline– Answer yes: 20 day timeline
– For those not in RTI, select ”no”
Reason for Re-evaluation Drives Timeline
1st choice- by next ACR
2nd and 3rd choice- 50 day timeline
4th choice- no evaluation this year
Select Disability
Automatically Selects
For a re-evaluation looking at a different/additional disability JESSE best practice is to keep all areas selected. For re-evaluation in the same disability area, select the needed assessments.
PT/0T referral process• PT- select the “Available educationally
relevant medical info” – Type “PT” and any information in the open text
box– Parent must obtain a PT script from their
physician
• OT- select the “assessment of motor skills and sensory responses”– Type any information in the open text box
Work as a Team• Make ISTART7 a part of your team• Train additional staff on ISTART7• Contact CCC for training and access • Include school psychologist• Include special education teacher
– Speech path must be involved if kid is in speech as you will be asking for a re-evaluation, not an initial.
In Review Paper to ISTART7
• Data Collection Summary for STAT– can now use ISTART7
• Evaluation Process– can now use ISTART7
• Initial Findings Meeting– can now use ISTART7
• Case Conference Written Notice– all must be using ISTART7
After Review of JESSE IEP’s (Written Notice)
• * (53) Goals need to be measurable, observable, meet the students need for special education, and monitored over time.
• (38) Progress Monitoring Data- numbers from the ISTEP and any other ongoing testing data you have go here. Many included summary in the present level but please put the data here.
• *( 35) Response to interventions- interventions are listed, but the student’s responses are often omitted.
Review of IEP’s cont…
• *(23) Program modifications- many are still putting accommodations here. Accommodations are what we formally called modifications. This section is asking if the curriculum is modified. If the student is on ISTAR, then the answer would automatically be yes.
• *(20) Present Level- write what level the student is currently at. Using mastered goals from the year before is a great starting place.
• *(15) Summary of finding from age appropriate transition- many listed the method to gather the information but did not summarize the findings.
Keep in Mind…• Your Data• Your Documentation• Your Written Notices (IEP)
– Would they stand up in a due process hearing?
