S.A.L.T. TEAM We are at the end of a busy summer at Trinity Pines. The hectic schedule of 24/7, back-to-back retreats and camps is now slipping into the history books. The fall will bring a more relaxed schedule. This allows us to complete some projects and attend to the details of preparing the camp for winter and hosting guests for weekend retreats. There are still activities that happen during the week, but not at the pace of the summer. The close of the summer camping season brings a mixture of bitter and sweet. It is hard to say goodbye to our faithful volunteers and summer staff members. In July of this year, we initiated a new program called SALT (Servant and Leadership Training) . We opened this program to students 16 years of age or older to come alongside our camp administrative staff and learn through experience. Those that responded were Lincoln Langford, Valley Shepherd Nazarene; Isaac Oman, Buhl Nazarene; and Jasmine Vanden Bosch, Nampa First Nazarene. These young people attended Senior High Camp, then invested the remainder of their summer as inaugural SALT Team members. This is a good time to discuss this ministry opportunity with a member of your family or church who possess a desire to further develop skills in the area of service and leadership. Here at the basic requirements: - Must be 16 years of age by June 1, 2020 - Required to apply and interview for SALT - Will be able to attend 2020 Sr. High Camp (SALT Team begins the week after Sr. High Camp) Inquiries and suggestions can be sent to Anthony Henry, Camp Manager, prior to 4/15/20 at [email protected]. We believe SALT is the perfect opportunity for young men and women in the Nazarene Church who love camp, love people, have a heart to serve others, and want to develop into strong young leaders. We hope you will help us spread the word about SALT and this great opportunity. The SALT Team has limited members due to housing availability, so make application now to be sure you are considered for summer 2020. UPDATES ON REQUESTSWe were able to sell all of the folding chairs that we had stored at Trinity Pines. Thanks to those who helped spread the word.

We want to acknowledge the donation of 15 round tables and 80 more folding chairs (which we traded for some other items), by Valley Shepherd Nazarene Church.

Euclid Church Board voted to donate a 1997 dodge minivan to Trinity Pines. Thanks, Euclid, for your generosity!

We are still looking for more dinner spoons at camp. They do not have to match. If you have extras that you don’t want, drop them by the District Office or the Meridian Camp officeand we will get them to Cascade.

FALL WORK WEEK: Manager Anthony Henry has announced a Fall Work Week schedule for November 15-18 (Friday-Monday). We invite you to come for one day, the weekend, or the entire time. Housing and food will be provided. This is an opportunity to do some deep cleaning and preparation for the winter months. Reservations to participate in Fall Work Week should be made through the camp office in Cascade by contacting Tammy at 208-382-6200 or [email protected].

FOR A SMOOTH RIDE: We are excited to announce that Development Director Kendra Dustin was successful in securing a grant in the amount of $15,000 from the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation in Idaho. This money will be used toward Phase I of the road paving project at Trinity Pines. Bryan Appleby, member of the Camp Property/Development Committee, is taking the lead on this project. Bryan is a civil engineer with a firm in the Treasure Valley. The Camp Executive Committee decided that the next grant request to the Murdock Foundation will be for this project. Kendra is working on the application with Bryan at this time.

STAIRS: We reported earlier that we were able to secure stairs from the National Guard at Gowen Field for the pole barn. Demolition of some old barracks resulted in this opportunity. Randy Jahn is the person in charge of fabrication of the stairs to fit our need. Thanks to cooperation from Jeff Angood who delivered the stairs and Norm Keesler who hauled the metal for upright support and platforms, the project will be underway in September. The great news is that we were contacted by Wright Brothers Construction, through Leigh Salisbury, and learned that there were additional stairs available. Knowing that we have other projects on the drawing board that will require stairs, we jumped at the opportunity. These were recently hauled to Trinity Pines by Jeff Angood for storage in the “boneyard” (out of sight). Praise the Lord for connections with a great network of people for items like this. Estimated cost if we had to build the stairs ourselves would be about $6,000-$8,000.

THRIVING BOARDS: Members of the Camps Board are off to school. Selected members will be traveling to Warm Beach Conference Center in Stanwood, WA (outside of Seattle), to a conference sponsored by the Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA).Trinity Pines is an active member in this association. The fall training will take place October 8-9 and the spring training March 31–April 1. Those attending include Gerron Gibson, Matthew Drinnon, Brian Higgens, Anthony Henry, and Rick Waitley. The Camps Board decided that this is a necessary training for our camp’s leadership and administration as we move into a more aggressive camping operation at Trinity Pines.

HOLIDAY GETAWAY: Looking for a family getaway for the Thanksgiving or the Christmas holidays? Trinity Pines is running a special for the five weeks from Thanksgiving to Christmas; we will rent a cottage for $250 per night with a three night minimum stay. The Conference Center and other facilities at the camp will be unavailable. Each cottage can sleep up to 28 and includes a full-size refrigerator, a stove, basic cookware, and utensils. There is limited plates, glasses, silverware, pots/pans and electrical appliances available.

We want to keep reminding you of this date -November 21 at 6:30pm. Reserve a table (no cost) for Share the Dream by contacting Cindy at 208-888-0988. This allows you to invite seven other people to sit at your table. It would be great if each church in the Treasure Valley would reserve a table for members who would enjoy learning about Trinity Pines. The event is at Valley Shepherd Nazareneand a dessert fellowship will be provided.
