Rules to Writing Limericks
When writing your limerick remember:
#1 Rhyming Order
• The last word in lines 1, 2 and 5 must rhyme
• The last word in lines 3-4 must rhyme
#2 Number of Syllables (Optional)
• Line 1 must have 7-8 syllables
• Line 2 must have 7-8 syllables
• Line 3 must have 5-6 syllables
• Line 4 must have 5-6 syllables
• Line 5 must have 7-8 syllables
Always Remember to:
• Include capitals
• Include punctuation at the end of each line (period,
comma, question mark, exclamation mark).
