Everyone knows that diamonds are the world’s most precious stones, but in many ways lime
is even more valuable. Our products play a vital role in water purification, land remediation and electricity generation. They are
also used in the production of essential materials ranging from construction products, iron, steel, plastics, and glass, to pharmaceuticals, animal feed and
toothpaste. Life simply wouldn’t be thesame without them. The reason Tarmac’s Lime and Powders are so sought after canbe summed up in one word – quality. The products produced at our Tunstead quarry in Buxton are renowned across the
globe for their purity and consistency. To ensure the highest standards are maintained all of our lime products are produced in compliance with ISO
9001 and rigorously tested by our own in-house team of chemists and technicians using the very latest analytical techniques.
These include X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), Automatic carbon/sulphur analysis,
automatic thermo gravimetric analysis, ion selective electrode and classical wet chemistry methods. The results speak for themselves. Our Buxton
quarry is the industry benchmark for quality and innovation, whilst our
products are the materials of choice for leading organisations across
the UK and throughout the world, from Northern
Europe to Central America, South
Africa to the Middle East.
Last year we exported over £4.5 million worth of lime products to customers in over 30 countries.
Across the world, as in the UK, the Limbux and Calbux brands are a by-word for purity, consistency and quality. International orders can be shipped as packed product in 20 tonne containers,or for larger volumes, bulk bags or loose bulk (granular materials).

Our Limbux hydrated lime is used by water treatment plants across the globe to correct the alkalinity and chemical balance of drinking water. We are also a leading supplier of specialist liquid lime products, which offer a safe, environmentally friendly alternative to caustic soda, as well as quicklime solutions for treatment of industrial effluent and sewage sludge.
A hallmark of quality Tarmac is a leading supplier of lime products for refining and conditioning metal ores
and non-ferrous metals. Calbux quicklime and Limbux hydrated lime are used by mining specialists all over the world for applications ranging from cyanide leaching and
pH regulation, to liquid flotation and tailing neutralisation. We also provide specialist solutions for scrubbing acid gasses that are produced
during the smelting process.
Tarmac Calbux quick lime products are shipped to paper
mills across Europe and around the globe. Paper pulp is produced using two different methods.
Calbux plays a critical role in both.In the sulphate (Kraft) process, it acts as a causticising agent, while in the alternative sulphite process it is used to neutralise acidic wastes.
We also offer a range of specialist lime products for the preparation
of bleaching agents, and the conditioning and treatment of
processed liquids.
Our lime products play a vital role
in the production of sugar from both cane and sugar beet.
Renowned for their purity and consistency, Limbux hydrated limes and Calbux quicklimes are the
products of choice for many of the world’s leading sugar producers, including Tate & Lyle, White Nile and Kenana Sugar.
Our lime products play such a vital role in the UK economy that in the event of a fuel shortage, supplies to our Buxton Quarry are safeguarded in the same way as they are for the emergency services. The same applies in many other countries across the globe. Throughout the civil war in the Ivory Coast, for instance, Limbux Hydrated Lime was shipped and distributed under the flag of the International Red Cross to ensure vital water treatment was not interrupted.
