I give because I made a promise to the Lord that when I moved, if I ever got a job as a teacher that I would use some of the tithes to support the Christian School (NSCS). We struggled while at NSCS to keep the kids in school. School was a priority, and we went without a lot in order to make that happen. I want to help other people to keep their kids at the school. I want to help other people who are struggling too.

We moved to Maine in 1993. Prior to that we were involved at NSCS for 8 years. My husband, Bruce,wasontheboardandIwasaT.A.inthird,second,andfirstgradesfor4years.Ourthree children -- Patricia, Bobby, and Kristin — were in grades 7, 5, and 2 when we left for Maine. I have never found a school like NSCS and even though we moved to a small town with a great public school system, we were so sad not to continue with a Christian school up here. I look back on my days at NSCS with great fondness. It was there that I developed a love for teaching. Mrs. Vi Hebele was my mentor. I spent two years with her in third grade because she encouraged me to apply to be a T.A. in her classroom. I soaked in everything she did and said. Continually, she advised me to go back to school to get my elementary education degree. (I had graduated in 1977 with a B.A. in Mathematics from Gordon College.) When I moved to Maine, I all of a sudden had the time and opportunity (God-given, for sure) to attend the University of Maine, where I got my B.S. in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, I was hired by Old Town Elementary School to be a second grade teacher and I have been here ever since. IMPACT HIGHLIGHTSOur students continue to out-perform their peers nationally across all grades and in all academic subjects. More importantly, our students are learning to grapple with ideas regarding their faith and their purpose in the world. They go on to impressive high schools and colleges rooted in the truth of God’s love and the fact that they have been known, valued and challenged at North Shore Christian School.
