ABSTRACT Solid state lighting control is a critical
component of many lighting designs. The variety of possible control approaches can be confusing and a bit overwhelming.
The goal of this presentation is to demystify the control vocabulary and provide a better understanding of the positive and negative implications of using each of the various approaches to solid state dimming.

LEARNING POINTS Attendees will learn the different approaches and technologies involved with control of solid state products and the associated terminology
Attendees will learn the positive and negative aspects to each approach
Attendees will learn the cost/install implications of each approach
Attendees will learn the basics of building a network for building control
Attendees will learn code compliance requirements as applied to controls

FORWARD PHASE/LEADING EDGE
• INCANDESCENT STYLE• MOST COMMON DIMMER TYPE• LEAST EXPENSIVE DIMMER TYPE• INRUSH ISSUES DUE TO CUTTING INTO THE HALF CYLCE WHEN TURNING ON
![Page 8: Lighting Controls for Dummies](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/589b73681a28abdd258b67cb/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
REVERSE PHASE/TRAILING EDGE
• ELECTRONIC LOW VOLTAGE (ELV) STYLE• OFTEN PERFORMS BETTER THAN FORWARD
PHASE• LESSENED INRUSH ISSUES DUE TO CUTTING
INTO THE HALF CYCLE WHEN TURNING OFF
