Lighting and Effects

In Bastilles music videos they usually have quite dark or natural lighting as this suits the general themes and styles of their music and their Indiepop genre. There is only one Bastille video which is shot in a conventional studio setting and that is Fake It but it still has very dark lighting and themes in it. Bastille like to contrast lighting in their videos so if a video is shot outside in the dark they will use bright lights and in the case of Laura Palmer lasers. This creates a very interesting effect that draws your audience’s attention towards the action and helps to build upon the feelings and the meaning behind the lyrics. This use of dark lighting and themes fits with the general lyrics and narrative of their songs as most of their songs have a meaning of loss or depression with an upbeat element to it.

Bastille have used quite a lot of filters and effects in their videos which also helps to build upon the mise-en-scene of the song. Grainy effects and filters are quite common to see in bastilles videos and covers as this reflects the broken storylines in their songs. I plan on using these filter in my video as I think that it looks really good and is a very common feature of Bastilles videos and is a convention I think is essential in any bastille video.
