Spring Banquet 2017

Save the date May 23rd for our Spring Ban-

quet, at Mt. Zion Church, on Knobley Road. The

theme will be “CEOS Flower Power”. Your spouse

and/or a friend are welcome, dutch treat of course.

It will be a buffet dinner served by Nethken

Hill Catering. Cost is $14 and we need a minimum of

50 reservations, The meal is your choice of baked

chicken or baked steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green

beans, tossed salad with choice of dressings, choice of

dessert, ice tea, lemonade, coffee or water. Each club

is responsible for collecting money and sending the

number of reservations and money to: Beth Buffone,

1200 Lynmar Street, Apt. #6, Keyser, WV 26726 by

May 10th.

One of the Family committee’s goals is to

make a time capsule. They would like to have a display

of time capsules. It can be for your club or your fami-

ly, big or little and you determine the date to open it.

There will be a short business meeting to elect

the county council President and Vice President for

2018-2020. The entertainment will be a great young

singer and musician, Donnie Carman. Bring item(s) for a Chinese Auction. Auction

items should be new, nearly new or unused. Tickets

will be sold that evening for $1.00 each or 7 for $5.00.

Clubs can make nametags for those attending.

And each club should provide a door prize (about

$10.00 value) flower(s); these will also be used for ta-

ble centerpieces. Remember spouses and friends are welcome to

attend. Plan now for this evening of socialization and

enjoyment. It is a way for you to participate in a

CEOS week activity.

From County President

Spring is here and things are happening: time has changed,

flowers are blooming, leaves are coming out, everybody is

sneezing, and ……..Mineral County CEOS have are planning

a fantastic fundraiser Bingo and flower workshop! Patty Leas-

ure, bingo chairperson is working hard to have a successful

event. Thanks to all who are helping in any way.

Now, we have Keyser Area Meeting in Hardy County, CEOS

Week, spring banquet, elections, and a flower workshop to

prepare for the flower show in June. If that doesn’t keep you

busy, I’m sure your club has meetings, workshops, or some

other activity that could help you be an active contributor to

Mineral County CEOS.

I know this is a big challenge, but with all of these events,

let’s see if we can get more publicity in the newspaper to help

increase our membership. Remember, “pictures are worth a

thousand words” and they are easier to produce than a written

article!

Happy Easter!

Join the 2017 Garlic Mustard Challenge! Please help us reach our goal of removing 50,000 pounds

of garlic mustard from forests across the state to protect

habitats for the West Virginia White and other butterflies!

Have fun, make a difference, and prepare to win some

amazing prizes! Garlic Mustard is a particularly nasty, non-

native invasive species that thrives in partial shade and

has no trouble growing in forest understories. Garlic mus-

tard can quickly take over an area crowding out our native

plants including trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit, ramps, and our

beautiful, often vulnerable, native orchids. Garlic mustard

even produces chemicals that can keep our native plants

from being able to grow and chemicals that can kill the

eggs and larva of butterflies!

Only an army of volunteers can help get rid of this invasive species! Please join us for the 2017Garlic Mustard Chal-lenge and together we can stop the spread of one of the most invasive species found in our states. Get a group of friends and join our pull at Blue Bend Campground on April 2 and Seneca Rocks April 30. Free camping will be available for our volunteers the evening of May 10th. The pull will start at 10:00 a.m. each morning and we will meet you at the parking lot for the campground. For more infor-mation, please visit: http://www.phcwpma.org/GarlicMustard.cfm or contact Rebecca Urbanczyk at [email protected].
