We are so proud that our development has received yet another accolade. Comanche Trace was recently named to the “Top 50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the US” by Where to Retire magazine. It is confi rmation of what we believe to be true. We offer a product with great value, provide a diverse lifestyle through club membership, and deliver on our promises. Thank you to everyone who supports Comanche Trace.

I always look forward to summer because the Texas Hill Country has the most beautiful weather, blue skies, puffy clouds, and…golf. The comments we receive on our course condition are outstanding, from folks who play on championship courses nationwide. Our members know that our fairways & greens are in the best condition every day.

As we ease into the lazy days of summer, I hope you will make time for some fi shing at our private lake and take in a picnic at the River Park. The lake is stocked with perch, bass and catfi sh, and though it’s catch & release, the fun is in the thrill of the chase and these fi sh love to chase!

Comanche Trace is growing! As our 2011 Tour of Homes has just wrapped up, numerous new residents are settling into their new lifestyles. 21 custom homes were completed within the last year, 11 more are under construction, and we anticipate another 16 new starts within the next year and many of those folks are joining the club now. I am very excited about the direction our club is headed. Confi dence among members is strong, and prospective buyers are choosing to live here.

I am encouraged by our position in the club market. Event bookings continue to be strong, as are membership sales. Our club is operating in the black. Our homeowner’s association is fi scally strong. Golf activities draw in greater numbers of member participants, and we look with great anticipation to the coming year.

All the best,

Trevor L. HydePRESIDENT

STudenT driverSSummer will be ending soon and some cooler weather will be coming our way. During

June and July we hosted the Kid Comanche Camp and both camps this year were a great success. Jacob Davis, Colby Cobb and I taught the golf instruction while B.K. Cody gave tennis lessons. The camp began on Tuesday and finished on Friday with a big pizza party and a last dip in the pool. The kids were awesome and we saw a lot of talent on the golf course and tennis courts. This year we had a few new faces who experienced Kid Comanche for the first time along with some Juniors who are veterans. Here are a few fun moments that we experienced with the kids.

In June we hosted “The Brute”, played over two days with two members joined as a team. Each team played within a flight of 5 other teams. The teams competed in a 9-hole match against 5 teams and the team with the highest points at the end of all 5 matches was crowned Champions. The matches between some teams were very close, and within some flights the difference between first and second was a matter of 1 point. The flight winners starting with the Championship Flight were Leonard Scott & Todd Ezell, First Fight Rod Bowyer & Bill Gensler, Second Flight Leo Clark & Norm White, Third Flight Curt Mitchell & Frank Bumpus, Fourth Flight Mike Kerstetter & Alex Dingman, and in the Fifth Flight Don Coombs & Bob Byrne. Congratulations to all those players who took first in their flights.

FITNESSThe fi tness message is being heard

and followed everywhere. Every day I see faithful walkers and even a few runners pounding the pavement. Treadmills and elliptical machines are humming away in the gym. Some of you are supplementing your cardio routines with weight machines and free weights. So, your hearts are getting fi t and your muscles are getting strong and toned. That’s great! But what are you doing for your core? (My what?) Oh – you mean my abs! Well, I occasionally do sit ups and crunches, so I’m good. Right?

You are on the right track, but there may be a better way. First of all, let’s defi ne “core”. More than just abdominal muscles, the core is actually the entire trunk of the body and includes the groin muscles, hip muscles, abdominal muscles, lower back muscles and the glute (or butt) muscles. Those muscles are called upon constantly to help us perform everything from our normal activities such as getting out of bed, tying our shoes, and standing up straight, to athletic pursuits such as riding a bicycle and swinging a golf club.

Will 20 crunches a day help in all those pursuits? Maybe a little, but if abdominal work is your only attempt at core fi tness, you are leaving most of those muscles behind. In our somewhat sedentary society full of work saving gadgets, we fi nd ourselves spending the majority of our time sitting in a fl exed position. Think about how many hours a day you are sitting at a desk, at your computer, in your car, or in front of the TV. This prolonged state of “fl exion” results in muscle imbalances. Muscles that are not called on too often become weak, and muscles that are in a fl exed position for long periods of time become tight and infl exible. Dr. Vladamir Janda, a physician from the Czech Republic, was the fi rst person to document this

type of muscle imbalance, and he calls it Lower Crossed Syndrome. It’s basically the combination of tight hip fl exors and a tight lower back, paired with weak abdominals and weak glutes. This combination leads to an excessive arching of the lower back (swayback), a fl abby abdomen and a fl at butt due to weakness in the glutes. The most dangerous consequence of this condition is excessive stress on the lower back, often resulting in pain.

So, in order to get us out of that constant state of fl exion, we need to introduce exercises that put us in different positions while working the entire group of core muscles. There are many possibilities, but these 4 basic moves, each with some variations, can get you on your way to better core fi tness.

Core strength is essential for functional fi tness – that is, enabling our body to safely and effi ciently perform daily tasks. And when we attempt athletic pursuits, it becomes even more important. Is the power of a golf swing, for example, generated from only the shoulders and arms? No! It comes from the leg, hip, abdomen and back muscles. Core muscles transfer power generated in the lower body to the shoulders and arms.

Core strength results in a more effi cient body. It’s about being able to safely do what you want to do, and doing it longer. Be sure and add core strengthening to your fi tness regimen.

BRIDGEMuscles: Glutes

Lie on your back with knees bent and feet shoulder width apart. First, try to isolate those glute muscles by squeezing your glutes (not the whole leg – just the glutes). Now, raise yourself up so that you are in a straight line from shoulders to knees. Keep squeezing the glutes! For a balance challenge, take arms off the fl oor. For even stronger glutes and more balance, straighten one leg and have all weight on the down leg. Repeat with each leg 5 times.

HIP ROLLSMuscles: Oblique Abdominals

Lie on back with legs bent and raised to table top position (90 degree angle). Arms are out to the sides. Lower your legs slowly to the right, keeping arms and shoulders fl at on the fl oor. Slowly return legs to the start, and then lower them to the left. Repeat 5 times on each side.

PLANK Muscles: Transverse abdominals and lower back

Begin on forearms and knees. Curl toes under and lift and straighten legs, lowering body into a plank pose with weight on toes and forearms. Tighten abs and hold at least 10 seconds. To advance, straighten arms and place hands on fl oor and hold longer than 10 seconds. Repeat 3 times.

t age sixteen, he played in an exhibition game with Sam Snead, one of the top players in the world. “I shot sixty-one,” remembers Frank, “and Sam shot sixty-two.” Rather than be upset that the young whippersnapper had shown him up, Snead took him under his wing.

“Sam was good to me. He invited me to play at Greenbrier and Boca Raton, and paid my way. He was a tough competitor, but he was nice to me and wanted me to pursue my dream.”

Frank went on to become the Florida State High School Golf Champion and attended Rollins College on a golf scholarship. In his second year he was the Florida State Inter-collegiate Champion. This convinced him to turn pro, even though, as Frank says, “If you look at the percentage of people who make it, nobody would try.”

It was a big risk, particularly since golfers cover their own expenses. “Unlike football, a golfer pays his entry fees, caddie, room, food, and travel – these days that can easily run up to $5,000 a week.”

Asked if he had a back-up plan, Frank says, “Have you ever heard of anyone trying out brain surgery?” He jumped in feet fi rst, and never looked back.

PRO CAREER Frank’s career took him all over the United States, Mexico and

Canada. He turned pro and played in his fi rst PGA Tournament in 1956, and joined the tour full time in 1957. In those days the tournament circuit was set up so that players drove from course to course.

“When I started in the late fi fties, there were few rental cars. We drove ourselves. We’d all pull in to a Stuckey’s or Luby’s and fi ll the place up. You’d look down the cafeteria line and all you’d see were golfers.”

Another thing that was different back then was the PGA policy of discrimination. “I was friends with black pros, but they couldn’t play a full schedule of tournaments,” Frank remembers. By the early sixties, the policy had been abolished, “but there were still some hard feelings.”

Frank played in eight Bing Crosby Classics. His favorite course was Cypress Point. “I played all up and down California,” he says,

24 LIFESTYLE august/september 2011

“from Carmel to San Diego, even Tijuana, and inland – Fresno, Bakersfi eld, Hesperia. I never played in Europe but I did play in Bermuda when I was in the Navy (1958-60) and even won a tournament at Gitmo (Guantanamo Bay, Cuba).”

Frank’s best fi nishes as a tour regular were second place at the 1962 St. Petersburg Open and the 1968 Tucson Open along with twenty-six top tens.

Tired of being on the road, he took a Club Pro job in Rochester, New York and

later in Cleveland, Ohio. At that time it was possible to have a Club job up north and also play the Winter Tour.

Eventually the tour was changed so that driving was impossible. You could not get from an East Coast tournament to one on the West Coast in the time between tournaments. That’s when golfers began to have to fl y. “There would be a courtesy car waiting when you landed,” Frank says. But because of the increased expense of travel, “they had to raise the tournament purses.” Tired of the grueling schedule Frank retired from the tour in 1969. For the next ten years, he was a Club Pro in Tucson, Arizona. His last job in the golf business was as General Manager of Great Hills Golf Club in Austin.

BETTER HALF

In 1962, Betty Jordan, a graduate of University of Texas at Austin, went to work for IBM in Dallas. Her career took her from Dallas to Houston, back to Dallas, to Austin, to New York City, back to Austin, to Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, and one more time, back to Austin. She loved the busy pace and said she didn’t really have time to meet a friend after work one Friday night. But her friend was very persistent.

“She called me fi ve times that day,” Betty remembers, “so I fi nally broke down and said I would meet her at a club . . . for one drink.”

About ten minutes after she got there, Frank walked in, “He smiled at me and I smiled back.” This year the Boynton’s celebrated their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary.

The fi rst time Frank and Betty played golf together, he says “She drove the ball 140 yards with a 7-iron which put her about twenty yards off the green. Then on her next swing, she hit it 140 yards right into a McDonald’s parking lot! I could tell right away that she needed a lesson in gearing down.”

By now Frank had decided he wanted “a more normal life, where I didn’t have to work weekends.” He had always loved following the stock market, so he became a fi nancial advisor.

The Boynton’s moved to Dallas. “It was a big transition. I’d had modest success. I was never out of the top one-hundred. But I decided it was time to give it up.” Meantime, Betty had come full circle and fi nished her IBM career in the Dallas area after thirty years and six weeks.

When Frank was at the age to qualify for the Senior Tour, he thought about returning to golf. But by then he had over 300 clients, “so I decided to just stay where I was.”

CHOOSING KERRVILLEAfter thirteen years in Dallas, Frank and Betty decided to look

for a place to move that was pretty and had a more leisurely pace. They considered Colorado, Arkansas and east Texas. But then Betty remembered how much she had loved the Texas Hill Country as a kid.

“Frank’s introduction to the Hill Country, other than Austin was when we were invited to a party in Hunt,” Betty says. Later, a Dallas friend fl ew Frank down for a weekend of golf at Riverhill. That was the tie breaker. “We liked the beauty, the pace and the peacefulness of the Hill Country.”

“There are three great golf courses in Kerrville,” says Frank, “Comanche Trace, Riverhill, and Schreiner. That’s very rare for a town this size.”

Frank is not the only famous Boynton: Radar, their eleven-year old Tibetan Terrier-Border Collie-Poodle mix is well known as a therapy dog. (He was featured in the fi rst issue of Lifestyle of Comanche Trace and the Texas Hill Country).

Radar makes trips to the V.A. Hospital and performs a series of entertaining tricks. He’s a great listener when children read to him in the Canine Literacy program.

Today the Boynton’s are happy in their Comanche Trace home, designed by Mickey Thompson and built by Arthur Schmidt. They have lovely views of the hills and expansive Texas sky.

Asked what advice Frank would give to young golfers thinking of turning pro Frank says, “You better be playing – and beating – people at different levels.” He notes that golf will be an Olympic sport starting in 2016.

“I had a great career,” he says. “I played with my heroes, but I really love my life now.”

COMANCHE TRACE ROTARY CLUB’S CASINO NIGHT

he ghosts of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday fl oated through the Comanche Trace clubhouse as more than 250 gamblers dressed in western attire attended the 2011 Rotary Casino Night on Saturday, May 14th, 2011.

Participants tried their luck at blackjack, roulette, craps, & Texas hold’em, until after 10PM. Drinks fl owed from the Vista Bar with its cowhide motif, and an abundance of food throughout the club provided various types of delicious cuisine. The Rotary Casino Night occupied the entire Comanche Trace clubhouse, as one of the largest events of the year.

Screams of delight and disgust permeated the Casino air as some gamblers became big winners and some lost it all. Gamblers won credits to be used at the live and silent auctions held immediately following the close of gambling.

What a pleasure it was to work with the Rotary Casino Night tri-chairs Kelli McLaughlin, Kyle Bond & Bill Hinton not to mention all the other Rotarians hard at work to make this such a successful event. Proceeds from this exciting evening went to help Families in Literacy of Kerrville.

One Wednesday afternoon a group of golfers from the Men’s Golf Association (MGA) was sitting around the Locker Room when someone brought up the idea of the MGA giving back to the community in some way. Bringing some wounded servicemen from Ft. Sam Houston for a round of golf was offered as an idea. The support for this idea from the guys in the room was very strong. Trevor Hyde was quick to offer his support by agreeing to make the golf course available to us. Ten weeks later, what started out as a little idea turned into a reality!

Everywhere we turned, there was overwhelming support. How can I help? Where do I send a donation? The support shown by the Comanche Trace community, as well as the Kerrville community, was very encouraging and heartwarming.

A team was formed to organize and plan the

event. We did not have any problems getting volunteers to help out. Everyone just pitched in and took charge. Whether they worked as individuals or part of a group, every detail was attended to. As the men took charge of planning the golfi ng activities, our wives took charge of organizing a day for the spouses of the Wounded Warriors and decorating for the evening BBQ.

Each of our honored guests received a gift bag when they checked into the YO Hotel on Sunday, and what I found amazing was how many of the Kerrville businesses stepped up and donated items to go in the gift bags. Our Wounded Warriors and their spouses will go home with lots of goodies from Kerrville.

Of course, some challenges arose as we planned and organized the event, but we just kept

reminding ourselves that the purpose of the event was to give each wounded serviceman a day of fun and relaxation, a day to forget about their everyday struggles.

The Wounded Warriors, along with 40 Comanche Trace members, played in an 18 hole scramble. We had prizes for the Warriors on all par 3 holes, as well as a putting contest after completion of the round of golf. While the troops were playing golf, the spouses received a tour of the design and manufacturing areas of James Avery and a luncheon at Bella Vita Restaurant. In the evening, a BBQ dinner for our Wounded Warrior guests and spouses was held at the Comanche Trace pool. Over 170 of our friends and neighbors attended.

Bottom line, the reward for all of us was to see the smiles on the faces of the Wounded Warriors and wives while they were in Kerrville. I have never doubted that Kerrville was the right place for me and my wife to live, but seeing the response of this community showing respect and caring for these young men and their spouses just reinforced that this is a community in which I want to live.

Big thank you to Byron Warren and The Military Order of the Purple Hearts organization in Kerrville.

The story is based on thousands of athletes who author and performance psychologist Dr. David Cook has counseled, and the great mentors and teachers from whom he has learned.

Told through the lives of two characters - an eccentric rancher with a passion for teaching truth, and a young golf professional at the end of his rope looking to escape the pressures of the game - they represent each one of us in our various stages of growth. And through them we are reminded that, in life, we must be willing to coach and be coached.

The year: 1956. Eddie Lowery has just made a bet with fellow millionaire George Coleman. Lowery claims that two of his employees, amateur golfers Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi, cannot be beaten in a best-ball match. Lowery challenges Coleman to bring any two golfers of his choice to the course at 10 a.m. the next day to settle the issue.

Coleman accepts the challenge and shows up with his own power team: Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, the game’s greatest living professionals.

The funniest and most popular sportswriter in America abandons his desk at Sports Illustrated to caddy for some of the world’s most famous golfers, and some celebrity duffers, recounting it all in this hilarious and revealing look at the world of golf.

Some of the best golfers in the world-including Jack Nicklaus, David Duval, Tom Lehman, John Daly, Casey Martin, and Jill McGill-agreed to let Reilly carry their bags at actual PGA and LPGA Tour.

Returning as an honored guest to the exclusive country club where he worked in his youth, Jack Handley remembers the summer of ‘46 when he caddied for Ben Hogan in the last Chicago Open. Jack recounts to the assembled sons and daughters of members he once knew the dramatic match between the mysterious and charismatic Hogan and the young club pro he idealized.

This novel of friendship, lost love, and great golf is told through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy whose life is forever changed by one of the greatest players of the game.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT COMANCHE TRACE? Since it was only a lot of piles of dirt back in 2000. It has been educational and fascinating to watch Comanche Trace grow into a community from the time when there were no homes here.

FAVORITE VACATION: A trip to Alaska with my friend Jodee Curwen. Since Jodee was born in Alaska, we were quite comfortable hopping ferries and taking a good look at the small towns like Petersburg and the huge Tongas National Forest. The best day was when we went out into Frederich Sound to watch the humpback whales with only 3 other people – including Captain Barry a renowned whale expert. What a fabulous day – a whale breeched only 30 feet from our boat – I was so awestruck, I didn’t fi gure out until later that we could have been crushed – what a way to go!!

FAVORITE PLACE: My house on the Guadalupe River – it is over 100 years old and has a great stucco wall that keeps deer out so I can grow any plants I want. There is lots of room to play with my dogs, Corey and Tasha– two rescued Dobermans. My husband, Al, has done a wonderful job restoring the old wreck of a house into a very comfortable home.

FAVORITE SAYING: My father always told me - “Never do anything you would not want to see on the front page of the newspaper.”

BEST PART OF MY JOB: All of the people I have the privilege to meet and the great staff we have in the real estate offi ce to share in all of the planning and work it takes to bring so many people here to live. I love that no two days are the same and there is a new friend to make every time the front door opens.

HISTORY

Mrs. Florence Thornton Butt was an amazing woman who was well ahead of her time.

Florence Thornton was born in Buena Vista, Mississippi, on September 19, 1864, during the Civil War. Her family was deeply religious, and two of her brothers were pastors; Florence Butt often assisted them as they held revivals.

She later attended Clinton College, where she was “not only the only girl in her class, but the honor graduate.”After college, she taught school for several years and also taught Sunday School at her church.

At 24 she married Charles C. Butt, a pharmacist, and they made their home in Mississippi and Tennessee. They had three sons, Charles, Eugene and Howard; there were also two step-sons,

Kearney and Stanley Butt.Around the turn of the last century, Charles, Sr.

became ill with tuberculosis. At that time little was known about the disease, though it was widely believed to be genetic, since it ‘ran in families.’ Only much later would science discover it was contagious. Of the various cures offered at the time, the most popular was to move the patient to a warm, dry climate. This often seemed to help, and many spots around the country became known for their care of tuberculosis patients; Kerrville became especially famous in the southern United States for its climate and special hospitals and facilities for victims of this disease.

You might be surprised to learn how many local families fi rst came to Kerrville because someone

in their family was dying of tuberculosis. So many of these families stayed on after their ill family member passed away, putting down deep roots in the hill country.

The disease brought the Butt family here; Charles Sr. and their son Charles Jr., would both eventually die of the disease, and both are buried here, in Glen Rest cemetery.

Since her husband was unable to work, and since she had a house full of sons, Florence Butt decided to sell some of the A&P grocery products shipped to her by a relative. She went door to door offering these products, and, according to her son Eugene, had a door slammed in her face by a Kerrville woman, who told her “I don’t buy from peddlers.”

“My mother was a very refi ned woman, and this

Florence Butt later in life, at the opening of a store. This was likely the store in the 800 block of Water Street, next to the old Bluebonnet Hotel.

hurt her deeply,” Eugene recalled. I have a photo from the period showing a wagon yard in snow, and on a post in the yard is a placard reading “Second Hand Furniture for Sale CHEAP, Kearney Butt.” Times were tough for the family and they were working very hard to survive here. According to family tradition, Florence Butt started her grocery store on November 26, 1905, in a small rented two-story frame building at what was then number 609 Main Street. The little building stood about where the Hill County Cafe stands today. Mrs. Butt opened her grocery store in the small room that served as the fi rst fl oor; the family lived over the store. The windows were open upstairs summer and winter to provide ventilation and the ‘dry air’ needed for Charles Sr.

The store (with rooms above) was tiny, about 20 feet wide by 38 feet, or 760 square feet, which she rented for $9 per month; she stocked the store with what was left of her savings, $60.

According to one of her grandsons, she made a discovery when sweeping out the room downstairs for the fi rst time: she found a Bible left behind by a previous tenant. She immediately prayed for her little company, and dedicated it then and there to her Lord.

Her neighbors on that block included a tailor on the corner of Main and Mountain streets; behind her, about where Fidelity Abstract Company is today there was the coal-powered Kerrville Ice Factory. The maps I own show the rest of the block contained small residences and several buildings marked ‘dilapidated.’ (Mountain Street is now called Earl Garrett Street.)

Her store took hold somehow, and survived, providing for the young family. Her young sons were enlisted in the effort: the fi rst deliveries were made in what must have been Howard’s baby buggy, later in a small hand wagon.

Florence Butt ran the store alone for many years;

her son Charles was active in the business as early as 1917, and her son Howard, upon return from his World War I service, also worked in the business, eventually becoming its moving force. She retired from active involvement in the company around 1934, though she would often go to the store in the afternoons, visiting old friends and greeting customers.

The store was originally on Main Street, but moved to Earl Garrett Street to the rock building that had been the community’s post offi ce, and now houses Sheftall’s Jewelers. After Earl Garrett street, the grocery moved to a larger building on Water Street, now gone, but about where One Schreiner Center is today. My fi rst memory of the store was at its fourth location when it was on the corner of Water and Quinlan, facing Quinlan; it was enlarged in the 1970’s to face Main in the building that now houses Hasting’s music and book store.

Its fi fth and present location is in the 300 block

Main Street, only six blocks northwest and 106 years away from that original store.

The company that has grown so successful was founded by a woman of intelligence and faith, whose need to provide for her family was so strong she overcame countless obstacles, from the humiliation of slammed doors to the then-prevailing convention that said women couldn’t run businesses. She was ahead of her time in many, many ways and she was very determined.

She was also very generous, giving back to the community that had supported her and her family. She was active not only in her church, but also in

the Eastern Star. She organized a Baptist mission at Oak Park here in Kerrville, and paid the pastor’s salary for many years. I have heard many, many stories of her kindness to those in need in our community.

Florence Thornton Butt lived for 89 years. She passed away at her home on Earl Garrett Street, a few blocks from her fi rst store. Her life was not easy in Kerrville: she buried her husband and her eldest son here, and now she rests beside them at Glen Rest cemetery near Schreiner University.

Some might consider her company, given its tremendous success, to be her greatest legacy,

though, in my opinion, the enduring gift she gave her family and our community was the strength of her faith as demonstrated by her caring service to those in need. Her story is compelling to me because after she had one door slammed in her face she knocked on another door, and it was opened to her.

Joe Herring Jr. is a Kerrville native whose father came to Kerrville to work in the grocery business (for the Evans Foodway chain, whose Kerrville store was located at Five Points, where the Fine Medical Center is today).

Miss Lula Belle is our 7 year

old Black and Tan Tortoise Shell

Kitty. We were adopted by her in

2004. You don’t choose a cat they

choose you.

She was abandoned at Buck-

horn Lake RV Resort and wan-

dered up to our RV. She was just a

baby and looked lost and hungry

so we fed her and she started

hanging around the RV. We would

leave for the day only to fi nd her

waiting patiently for our return.

We fell in love with her right

away but it was only after we

found out that she was going to

be taken to the humane society

that we decided we needed a

kitty. I think somehow she was

behind the story.

Podzie is our 4 year old Blond

Hill Country Domestic Shorthair

(DSH) that came to our back door

June 2008. He was only 8 pounds

when he decided he wanted us to

be his family and he was not going

to take no for an answer.

He came and looked in the back

door only to be ignored (we really

didn’t want another cat). He was

very healthy looking and did not

look like a stray. In fact, we spent

several days trying to fi nd his

owner. When he was tired of being

ignored he got a running start and

just crashed into the back door

making quite a thud. Persistence

does pay off; we have had him

since that day.

Podzie is named after our friend

Phil Spizale from Louisiana. Many

of you will remember Phil, he has

been my Futurity partner many

times and is a terrifi c guy and once

you meet Phil you never forget him.

PET PROFILE

Dooley is our 3 year old Black

and White Hill Country DSH that is

a rescue kitty as a part of the Big

Fix. He was a wild little baby that

we thought would always be feral.

Our vet, Dr. Bennett at Ark

Veterinary Hospital, told us that

Dooley was young enough that if

he had some time around humans

he might become domesticated.

So we left him in their care for a

week and went on vacation.

Our plan was for him to become

tame and be adopted by some

loving family. But after the week,

the vet told us that he had not

taken to the experience well at all

and would not be a good house

pet. We

decided

to return

him to his

habi-

tat and

thought

that

would be the last we saw of him.

A couple of hours after we got

home, and the little cat had been

released back to the wild, we

looked out and there he was just

lying on the patio like he owned

the place. I went outside, and it

had worked; he was happy to be

picked up and loved on and as

they say...the rest is history.

It was an exclusive view at the

You can see this home is special before you walk up onto the unique tower front porch. This piece of heaven is so quiet and peaceful with beautiful antelope to watch from my vantage point on my very own patio. With almost 2 acres, there is no better place to share with friends and family. From here I can see the golf course and a neighboring ranch with views of the surrounding

hill country that are simply soul quenching. The home has all the amenities we have been

looking for. The master suite is spacious for my king size bed. There is even a separate closet for my husband so he can keep his golfi ng togs all neat. My large closet holds my entire wardrobe and a little extra for those fabulous fi nds on shopping trips. We each have our own sink and

counter space so we can get ready for all of the fun there is to be had here. There are two more bedrooms for our guests. The beautiful hardwood fl oors in my dining room, great room and kitchen are a breeze to take care of and they look great. The kitchen has lots of cabinets for all my dishes and counter space to work on and have my friends join in. There is plenty of room at the long granite counter for friends to chat while I make the margaritas. The offi ce space near the kitchen is a great place to plan parties and keep track of my life on my computer. It is so convenient.

Our new lifestyle suits us to a tee. We can walk to tennis courts, the swimming pool, a fi tness center with all the equipment we need to stay in shape, and the walking trails where we meet so many of our new friends. Wow, did you see that pretty antelope?

Our backyard offers so many

possibilities – we could add a

pool or just a nice spa. But I must

say, it is pretty special just like

it is. There is plenty of room for

guests on the large patio to watch

sunsets or just sit and chat.
