A daily routine is important to bring
essential changes in mind, body, and
consciousness. The daily routine is termed as
Dinacharya (dina – day & charya – behavior/routine)
in Sanskrit. It is a simple way to relax and energize the body & mind. In order
to be healthy, it is necessary to tune our
bodies as per the nature's master cycle.
1.Arise - Wake Up Early in the Morning:It is always good to awake at sunrise in perfect synchronization to the natural clock, as our biological clocks are accustomed to the rising and setting of the sun. Start your day with peace and a sense of joy, which will make your whole day a pleasant.
2. Eliminate - Natural Urges:
Early morning is the best and natural time to eliminate the
body's physical waste. This is a time when one should not be in
a rush. Do not suppress the natural physical urges such as
elimination, thirst, hunger, sleep, yawning, sneezing, flatus,
ejaculation, and vomiting, since it will lead to uneasiness and
even disease.
3. CleanlinessEveryone should have a bath in clean water,
which should accompany brushing teeth, scraping the tongue, gargling with warm sesame oil to strengthen jaws & prevent
dental cavities, proper cleaning of the ears & the nose and splashing some cold water in the
eyes. Wear clean clothes and keep your nails & hair trimmed.
4. A Glass of Warm Water:
Drinking a glass of lukewarm water is good after brushing your teeth and scraping your tongue, as it helps flush out all toxins accumulated overnight in the body. It can also stimulate a bowel movement and aids in peristalsis. Moreover, consuming a glass of warm water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a spoonful of honey is also good for health.
5. Exercise – Get Moving :Exercise revives, and restores the mind/body and lessens the stress & weakness. Regular exercise (increases the body's stamina and improves immune system. A person can do exercises depending on the age and body type (kaphas can perform heavy exercises, pittas should do it in moderate levels, vatas can go for yoga, but not aerobics).
6. Abhyanga - Massage:Abhyanga is the rubbing or massaging of the body with warm herbal oils. A regular self-massage with herbal oils is an excellent way to detoxify and promote the tissues in the body.Gentle oil massage enhances circulation, increases vitality, calms the nervous system, prevents dehydration, strengthens vision, stimulates immune system, remedies insomnia, promotes healthy aging, and restores balance.
