1. Background on Life Skills Education (LSE) for out of school youth The purpose of life skills is to help young people find out who they are, where they are heading, and how to get to where they want to be. This curriculum for out-‐of-‐school has 11 units which are designed to help the youth
Ø Overcome challenges related to growing up Ø Help them develop positive relationships Ø Harness their sexual reproductive health Ø And improve their lives in their communities
Intellectual Foundations humbly thanks and appreciates the opportunity to be tasked to perform such great works. Thank You. This would not be possible without the sponsorship and partnership from UNFPA, FLAS and ENYC. 2. Implementing the LSE manual Pilot The LSE manual pilot was implemented in Shiselweni Region, by eSwatini National Youth Counsel (ENYC) and also at Ntondozi inkhundla, by Intellectual Foundations. This report will detail the work done by Intellectual Foundations in Ntondozi Inkhundla. 3. Workshop Breakdown In Ntondozi, Intellectual Foundations carried out 20 sessions of this workshop with the youth of that area. The youth in attendance were all out-‐of-‐school youth. The below information gives more details about the workshop:

Ø Gender breakdown
The class consisted of 15 (56%) females while males made up the remaining 12(44%). Out of the 15 females at the workshop, 3 of them came to sessions with their babies. During the sessions, these mothers would sometimes have to breastfeed their young ones. All 3 mothers never missed any of the 20 sessions.
Ø Workshop Attendance per day
From the graph above, it shows that attendance varied from day to day. 13 days out of the 20 days had an attendance of 25 or above. The remaining 7 days had an attendance of 24 or less. The lowest attended session stood at 21 youth while the highest was 27 youth. 4. Challenges faced when implementing the workshop
Ø Attendance not constant. Ø Late attendance to sessions causing delays of up-‐to 20min. Some youth
claim they are late due to family commitments while others stated that they travel long distance to attend the sessions.
Ø Some units needed more time than that allocated.

Ø Some youth lack confidence to speak in front of peers. This was evident during the feedback and recapping sessions. They were able to write down what they learnt but struggle to communicate it verbally.
5. Observations
Ø Youth were eager to learn Ø Manual material was easy to understand Ø Youth would report when they couldn’t attend sessions Ø Youth found the topics exciting.
Especially unit 5: planning for the future Unit 4: Gender roles and equality Unit 8: Pregnancy 6. Recommendations
Ø Unit 5: Engaging Unit 5 earlier helps guide the workshop better. It became easier to reference all the other units as direct influencers to their present and future plans.
7. Feedback from Youth
Ø More time is needed to really go deep in into a topic Ø It helped me stay busy instead of staying at home doing nothing. Ø I am going to share this knowledge with others. Ø Feedback sessions also helped me know how to talk in front of others. Ø I like that I was taught that it’s ok to say no and not feel any guilt. Ø I like that this workshop is meant for young people, therefore we are free
to fully express yourselves. Ø I didn’t like that some people said things that made me feel
uncomfortable. Ø I am glad I was told about the social media rules because I was aware of
the impact social media could have in my life. Ø Now I understand why it is important to set goals.

They decided to do Unit 4: Gender equality. They decided to host a birthday party for everyone. This would symbolize that both males and females are equal. A cake was bought and they all celebrated their birthdays as equals.
