Serving each otherOcotillo School's "Big Project"The Ocotillo school community rallied together to minister to the needs of a family in theschool. Darwyn Sanchez, Lifeline's Director of Schools in Honduras, shares this update withus...

Dear brothers and sisters, I want to share about the "Big Project" we have beenon working with parents, teachers and students. The entire Ocotillo school community were involvedin many activities to collect money so that we couldbe generous with a family from our school. In March we decided the project would be to build ahouse for a family in the school. But we kept itsecret because we did not want to give false hope tothis family. We announced this in our last parents meeting andeverybody is happy about it. After many meetingand activities, we are almost ready for start theconstruction! The plan includes our teachers and10th and 11th graders to be involved in construction, like volunteers. Please, pray with us for this family. The family whowas selected lives in Ocotillo and has the worstliving conditions. (see photos) The student who willreceive the house is in second grade; her name isMayra Daniela Alvan Santos. Blessings, Darwyn Sanchez

"Our country has seriousproblems but in middle ofany situation God is callingus to share the GOD'S HOPE

to others. In Lifeline'sschools, our students arefollowing this message!"

-- Darwyn Sanchez,

Lifeline's Director of Schools inHonduras

In June, Kesaia Cojon, Honduran Summer Intern and daughter of Carlos & Paty Cojon (Lifeline'sChildren's Home Directors), coordinated a summer camp for 19 girls. Kesaia shares about thegirls' experience at the camp... The camp that took place at Cary Hill two weekends ago was a blessing for the girls and for us!There were 19 girls (10 from the Omoa Children's Home and 9 from Ocotillo Christian Church). Our theme was "Valiente," which means Brave. The girls learned about the value they have asdaughters of the King, based on Psalm 45:11 and Ephesians 2:10. We had three lessons about respect for ourselves and each other, we talked about the lies thatwe as girls believe but can overcome with God´s Word, and we discussed self-esteem. We alsohad fun games and divided the girls into 2 teams, of which each team prepared a drama and asong that they did by themselves. It was a fun camp and we are happy that the girls got to enjoy and learn. The last morning, each of us shared something we liked and something we learned from our time at camp: somesaid that they learned to respect others and to respect God; others mentioned that theylearned that they are beautiful before God´s eyes and they wanted to believe this truth, despite the comments from other friends or other people; they loved the games; and the Omoagirls also loved that some of the girls from Ocotillo church were able to come. The girls areanxious for the camp next year! Thank you for all your prayers and ecouragement!

Student OutreachSharing Hope "Putting others first is always a blessing" and "what atremendous experience" was expressed from one ofour students recently when visiting the Hondurangovernment hospital "Mario Catarino Rivas." The 11th graders from Ocotillo Christian School spenttime with the children in the hospital, shared God'sWord, played games, and blessed the children withgifts. We praise God that the students had theopportunity to share God's love with the children, andfor the life-change it had on both the students andpatients!

More than educationCelebrating Families Recently, Ocotillo Christian School and GonzalesChristian School each celebrated "Family Day," whichwere days filled with events that were dedicated tocelebrating families, praising our God, and hearingthe Gospel of Jesus Christ.

At Gonzales, the students created beautiful artworkof their families that were then displayed for otherstudents to see. The younger students also coloredpictures that said "Todo en familia es mejor," whichmeans "everything is better in family."

At Ocotillo, they hosted a seminar for the parents.Pastor Antonio preached and encouraged thefamilies to trust in God and to build families underlove of God; 70 couples attended this celebration.

Lifeline's schools are not only educating thestudents, but also strive to reach out and minister toand build up the families.

Your assistanceShipping Here to Thereby Gretchen DeVoe, Lifeline Co-Founder Years ago, all the sponsor gifts for the children were carried into the country in our checkedbags. Well, we outgrew that! About 6 years ago, the Lord opened the door for us to ship itemsto Honduras duty-free because of our legal status there. We jumped on it and have beenshipping that way ever since. But we need your help. Sponsors donate $7 per shoe box sized package to offset the shippingcosts, but that does not cover all our expenses because we ship a variety of ministry items toHonduras, beyond sponsor gifts:

Earlier this year we shipped furniture for the Omoa Children's Home (their living roomwas bare), medical supplies for our clinic, and donated gifts that are given to not-yet-sponsored children. In a week we'll be shipping 2 pallets of our ABC food and 1 pallet of peanut butter. Thisfood will be used by our pastors to minister to the poorest in their communities. We willalso share this food with our Bible Institute students. We have donated furniture for the Bible Institute that we would like to ship.

...All of these donated items need to get to Honduras, but we need funds to get them there! So, we are asking you - our generous supporters - to consider pitching in and helping with afinancial gift over and above the gift package shipping fee. Each shipment costs Lifeline approximately $4,000 - $4,500 after deducting what sponsors havepaid for shipping their gifts. Would you consider committing to helping us ship 3 times eachyear? For more information contact [email protected] Thanking you in advance!

Culture and TraditionsFrom Childhood to Womanhoodby Brenda Johnson, Volunteer Work Team Coordinator

Quinceañera, quince años or simply quince, is thecelebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday in parts ofLatin America, including Honduras. This birthday iscelebrated differently from any other as it marks thetransition from childhood to womanhood. TheRichwood work team was blessed by the Lord toparticipate in Deysi Cortez's (one of the girls fromthe Omoa Children's Home) quinceanera this pastJuly. I Corinthians 13:11 says, "When I was a child, Ispoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thoughtas a child; but when I became a man [woman], I putaway childish things." What an honor for Jeff andPatti Evans (work team members) as they walkedDeysi down the aisle of the church and seated her ina beautifully decorated arbor on stage. The entireRichwood Team, lead by Lifeline's Honduran InternKesaia Cojon, decorated the church in turquoise andyellow. The ladies on staff at Omoa Children's Homehad spent days cooking and baking for the event. Pastor Brian Nevins, of the Richwood Team, sharedthat evening on keeping your eyes focused on what'simportant, Jesus and the life He has for each of us. And the most lovely moment of all, was when Deysistepped up, putting away childish things and spokeboldly yet humbly to the congregation, making thatfirst step as a young woman determined to followJesus. The Omoa church was beautiful, Deysi wasbeautiful, the food was marvelous, the message wasof the Lord, and we were blessed.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is fromabove, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow ofturning." (James 1:17)
