carbohydrate

A carbohydrate is an energy rich organic compound made of the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.

The simplest carbohydrates are sugars.Glucose is a sugar found in your body.Complex carbohydrate is made of a long

chain of simple carbohydrates bonded together.

Complex carbohydrates

Starch and cellulose are both polymers built from glucose, but the glucose molecules are arranged differently in each case.

Plants store energy in the form of the complex carbohydrate starch.

The body breaks down starch into glucose, which it uses for energy.

Plants built stems and roots with cellulose- a complex carbohydrate.

Proteins

Proteins are polymers formed from monomers called amino acids.

There are 2 kinds of amino acids found in living things.

Each amino acid has a carboxyl group (-COOH).

Sources are meat, fish, eggs, and milk.

Lipids/Cholesterol

Lipids are energy rich compounds made of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen.

Lipids release twice as much energy in your body as do carbohydrates.

Lips include fats, oils, waxes, and cholesterol.

Each fat or oil molecule is made of three fatty acids. And one alcohol.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in all animal cells.

Nucleic Acids

Nucleic acids are very large organic molecules made up of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorous.

DNA are the initial that stand for one type of nucleic acid. Called deoxyribonucleic acid.

The other type is ribonucleic acid –RNAThe building blocks of nucleic acids are called

nucleotides. The differences among living things depend

on the order of nucleotides in their DNA.
