Life Skills EQ & Do Now EQ: How can you use the 10 life skills to enhance your life? Do Now: Make a list of 5 challenges you faced last week? What are Life Skills? Life Skills are tools for building a healthy lifestyle. There are 10 of them. Assessing your health How healthy are you? How do you know if you are doing the right thing for your health? Will help you evaluate your actions and behaviors to affect your health. Communicating Effectively Have you had trouble dealing with a classmate or family member? Have you struggled for the right words to say how you feel? You will know how to listen, and speak effectively. Will help you improve relationships with everyone. Practicing Wellness Show you how to practice healthy behaviors. EG: Getting enough sleep, choosing healthy foods, and avoiding risky behaviors. Coping Coping is dealing with troubles or problems in an effective way. Help you deal with difficult times and situations. What are some situations you may have to deal with? Being a Wise Consumer A consumer is a person who buys products or services. EG: CDs, clothing, auto repair, medical care. Will help you make good decisions about being a consumer What is an example of a product or a service that you buy? Take a Break 1). Stand up 2). Turn & Talk with a partner 3). Discuss 2 of the life skills we have covered. Evaluating Media Messages Public forms of communication are referred to as media. Has a significant influence on what you learn about the world. What are some examples? Using Community Resources A resource is something that you can use to help achieve a goal. EG: Health clinics & libraries What are resources you use? Making GREAT Decisions Will provide you with the different steps to make healthy decisions for yourself. Step by step detail. Using Refusal Skills Will provide you with different ways to say no to something. What are some things you would have to say no to? Goal Setting Will provide you with tips to help reach your goals. What are 3 of your goals you want to accomplish in the next 5 years? Life Skills Wheel Place each of the life skills in a segment on the wheel. On the lines provided describe how you can use these life skills to enhance your life.
