Dieses Wörterbuch enthält nahezu 1.500 Akronyme und Abkürzun-gen aus den Fachbereichen Biochemie, Molekularbiologie und Toxi-kologie. Es ist eine Auswahl der gebräuchlichsten Akronyme und Sy-nonyme, die sowohl in Forschung und Lehre als auch im Laboralltag Verwendung finden.
Hinweise zur Nutzung des Akronym-Wörterbuchs
Die Akronyme sind alphabetisch sortiert.
• Griechische Buchstaben werden wie der entsprechende lateinische Buchstabe interpretiert.• Sonderzeichen (Bindestriche, Punkte etc.) in Akronymen werden ignoriert.• Zahlen am Anfang eines Akronyms werden für die Sortierung nicht berücksichtigt.• Zahlen innerhalb eines Akronyms rangieren in der Reihenfolge höher als Buchstaben.
Akronym-Begriffe und Synonyme sind nur dann übersetzt, wenn es eine gebräuchliche Übersetzung gibt.
Im Deutschen und Englischen können unterschiedliche Synonyme gebräuchlich sein.
Manche „deutsche“, fachsprachliche und gebräuchliche Übersetzungen enthalten auch englische Begriffe.

Bei Begriffen, die im Deutschen und Englischen gleich sind, wird der Begriff, wie im Deutschen üblich, großgeschrieben.
Alternative Akronyme eines Begriffes oder dessen Synonyms werden mit „auch“ oder „also“ (im Englischen) angegeben und sind alphabetisch sortiert.
Akronyme für Substanzklassen stehen auch im Deutschen im Singular (z.B. PAK).
Hinweise zu den Strukturformeln:
• Strukturformeln sind nur bei kleineren Molekülen dargestellt, nicht bei großen Strukturen wie den Proteinen. Sie sind nur einmal aufgeführt, in der Regel bei ihrem deutschen Hauptakronym. • Bei Molekülen mit verschiedenen tautomeren oder anomeren Varianten ist nur eine der möglichen Strukturen dargestellt.• Die 20 beim Menschen natürlich vorkommenden Aminosäuren sind in ihrer beim pH7 vorliegenden, ionischen Form dargestellt (zu finden beim jeweiligen Drei-Buchstaben-Code).• Alle übrigen Moleküle (mit einigen Ausnahmen, z. B. Farbstoffe, Choline) sind als nicht-ionische Verbindungen dargestellt.• Endständige Methyl-Gruppen (CH3) sind nicht durchgängig ausgeschrieben, um in einigen Fällen die Übersichtlichkeit zu verbessern.
