Director’s Corner
By Vera Marelli, Executive Director In 1997, a small group of local individuals, concerned with the struggles facing young local pregnant girls and women, met to find a solution to this dilemma. Soon the idea was born to create a place to meet with these mothers, that would offer encouragement, love, acceptance and basic material goods, with the goal of having them choose life rather than having an abortion.
Since that time, TryLife Center has helped over 3,000 women with unplanned pregnancies choose life, not abortion, for their unborn children by offering emotional support and care, pregnancy testing, counseling and material assistance.
With two decades of history and service behind us, and with much more to come, we proudly invite you to join us for our special 20th anniversary celebration, Thursday, September 14th at Veltre’s Wedding & Event Centre, Coxcomb Hill, New Kensington (Plum area).
For those of you who have attended before, this year’s luncheon and dinner will be a bit different. Not only are we holding both events somewhere new, but there will be baskets galore for Chinese auctions. Additionally, the Center is currently selling raffle tickets with a $1,500 winner drawn at the evening event (see info inside). As always, tickets are not sold for either event: however, a request is extended to each guest for a one-time gift and monthly donation to support our annual budget.
Enclosed you’ll find your invitation. Please call to make your reservation or return the enclosed RSVP card. We look forward to seeing you and having you celebrate this important milestone with us. With your support, we’ll continue to be here for at least another 20 years to provide these much needed community services.
I Can Almost See You The Ultrasound Project is almost up and running. The clinic is soon-to-be ready thanks to in-kind donations from Citizens
Family Health Clinic, CURA Center and the upcoming ultrasound machine from the Knights of Columbus. Under the
direction of medical director Dr. Rick Fogle, Jane Mercuri was recently hired as our sonogragher. Jane has been working in
sonography for the past six years and is certified with ARDMS. She is currently working on compliance with licensures and
regulations needed for TryLife Center’s operation of the Ultrasound Project.
Currently we are looking for volunteer RNs and LPNs. Can you help?

Did you know?
That over 30 medical studies now show that having an abortion substantially increases a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer?
That Planned Parenthood does not do mammograms and only does sonograms for clients intending to abort?
That TryLife Center distributed 18,280 diapers to clients during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017?
WALK AROUND THE LAKE More can participate! More can have FUN! Babies always welcome!
Walking, Running, Strolling for Babies has replaced our
previous Biking for Babies event.
Once again board member Wayne Decroo and the Killer
Bees will be organizing and managing the event. The
Killer Bees Cycling Team has been raising money for
charities for 22 years. No bikes this year as it has
become extremely difficult to obtain permits to travel
through nearby municipalities. With road construction
in many local areas, road rage expressed to cyclists, and
the dangers of mixing cyclists with vehicles, we have
wisely changed our fundraising efforts to a safe
environment for all…the path around the
Northmoreland Park Lake.
There is a $20 registration fee and we are suggesting
that participants obtain pledges from friends, relatives
and businesses to raise funds for the mission of TryLife
Center: Saving Babies and Helping Families Succeed!
Each lap around the lake will give the participant a
ticket to deposit for one of the many prizes available.
We hope that people of all ages will join us for this
family-fun morning on Saturday, October 14, 9:00a.m.,
at Northmoreland Park. Babies in strollers are
welcome.
Contact [email protected], 724.882.6068 for
more information. Look for registration packets soon
and also check www.trylife.center/upcomingevents in
August for registration forms and pledge sheets.
And the Winner is…
As part of TryLife Center’s 20th Anniversary
Celebration, we are adding a cash raffle. Tickets are $5
each with the 1st prize winner receiving $1,500 and the
second place winner $1,000. There is also a seller’s
prize of $100. Winning tickets will be drawn at the
September 14 evening event and winners need not be
present.
Packets of 20 tickets to sell are available at the Center
for you. These are easy to sell and will generate
excitement for the fall event. Come and get yours and
be blessed as you support our programs.
We are also looking for those businesses or individuals
who will donate a gift basket or items for a basket for
the Chinese auction. Call 724.339.9399x105 if you can
help sell raffle tickets or to donate a basket.
HAVE YOU SEEN OUR BILLBOARDS? People are commenting about our billboards that say, "We
offer Real Alternatives." A few have asked are we now
offering abortions? Absolutely not!
There is an alternative, another road, driven by compassion.
In our state the woman or girl can turn to Pennsylvania’s
Pregnancy and Parenting Support Program of which we are a
part.
The program is administered by Real Alternatives, which
supports both the woman and her baby, equipping her with
the tools that will help her succeed at motherhood, college,
relationships, and the rest of the elements of her life.
Over the past two decades, Real Alternatives has provided
kind-hearted, clear-thinking, and loving support to more than
275,000 women and their families. They have helped women
and girls to find solace, hope, and encouragement for the
future.
Because of the billboards we've received numerous phone
calls from those seeking an abortion. Last week a 17-year old
girl and her boyfriend came in for help with paying for an
abortion. We were able to minister Christ and the gift of life
to them. And so the billboards are working.
