During the Depression , if a family could not afford to pay rent they lost their home.

Soup kitchens were established for many of the families that couldn't afford a meal.

There was a horrible drought on many farms which soon was called “Dust Bowl”

Even though it was for a short amount of time, many Americans were able to escape by entertainment.

They would go to the movies or sit and listen to one of many radio programs.

Although it was a harsh time many unemployed became the subject of stories and told them through pictures

Many Showed their stories through the posture of the person or object in the art work

Entertainment was needed more than ever.Dance craze was a marathon where couples

would dance for hours and the winner got a prize

Movies was another thing and only cost 25cents

The Board Game Monopoly was another major fad

President Hoover issued a statement assuring the nation that industry was “on a sound and prosperous basis”

Next step Hoover made was „public works‟ –government financed projects.
