President’s Message - Shirley Driscoll. 9720 5835
Greetings to all Members,
Since Alan is back in hospital I am
responsible for this month’s newsletter,
so ‘while the cats away the mice will play’, I
have included a cartoon image of a dog
somewhere in this newsletter for you to
find.
A new round of advertising has begun on Radio Eastern
98.1 with Edith doing an excellent long interview
promoting Croydon Life Activities.
Are you making the most of your membership, we have a
lot of activities to try, I have recently tried Petanque and
found it great fun, so why not try something different and if
you would like to see a new activity added to our list, your
committee is happy to listen.
Have you ever considered sitting in on one of our
committee meetings? the next one is on the 17th of May at
the Bendigo Bank in East Ringwood at 2.30pm.
Last month’s speaker was from Bethel Funerals who
enlightened us on their philanthropic work then answered
questions from the floor.
In May we will have a games night with a difference, we
have quoits, hookey, toss the bean bag etc. as well as word
searches and puzzles for those less inclined to participate in
the games. And it goes without saying there will be prizes.
So come prepared to have fun.
For June we have a speaker from the National Seniors Club.
Happy Mother’s Day to all Mums
Kind Regards, Shirley

Activities...
BLOKES’ B&B - Jim 0447 734 945
Our next men’s Beer and Banter lunch will be on Friday June 8th – 12 noon at the
Kilsyth Club in the West Wing, cnr Canterbury & Colchester Roads, Bayswater North
(ph.9761 4133). Best regards – Jim
GOLF– Peter G. (9722 1037) & Marion (9725 0740)
Hi all golfers.
April has been good to us – that
typical Autumn weather, with cool
mornings warming up as we warm up. After the
excitement and fatigue of the Castlemaine trip
wore off, we settled back to ordinary golf. We
have had comfortable sized groups of 16 to 18
recently due to absences and injuries. We’ve seen
quite a few good close scores as well as several
birdies including 2 by Jim D in the one round.
Don Climas has deserted us for the warmth of
Darwin (no need really) and Marion our co-
convenor is currently carousing in Catalonia
(Spain) – yep, that’s the lengths some people will
go to, to get away from us. Of course we wish her
a great trip and a safe return. Vic Mitchell joined
us for one round after a sustained absence, and
Marj was the only birthday girl this month. As
always in solidarity - keep swinging. Peter
and Marion (co-convenors)
Cheers, Marion & Peter (co-Cordinators)

CYCLING– John S. 9725 0670
April has been delightful weather for being outdoors on two wheels; the Croydon peloton has varied in number from four to eight riders during the month. We have ridden the Mullum Mullum track to Schwerkolt Cottage; to Vermont Private Hospital Cafe, Burwood Highway and the tried and true Tarralla route to Alchester Village, Bayswater (good coffee is an essential choice of destination). Distances travelled 20 - 30 kilometres.
- John Stevens
