POST GRADUATE COURSES IN DENTAL
TO START MDS COURSE
1. The MDS course to be started only in a Dental College recognized by Dental Council of India.
2. In Addition to the BDS staffing pattern the following requirements are to be met
a. Professor & HOD with a minimum 10 years of teaching experience after MDSb. There should be an additional Asst.Professor in the department with 3 years of experience after MDS
3. The department consisting of one Unit :
Professor – 01 Asst. Prof – 02 Lecturer – 02 as per Dental Council of India norms for BDS admissions. With this staff pattern 03 students can be recommended.
4. For additional increase, the college should have similar unit of position consisting of following staff in the same department.
Professor – 01 Asst. Prof. – 02 Lecturer – 02 for the additional seats.
5. Maximum 2 such units i.e. 06 students in each speciality can be recommended

EQUIPMENTS: Each P.G. student should have one Dental Chair and unit added in phased manner spread over the span of 3 years time. The college should have adequate space to accommodate these Dental Chairs and Units.
List of equipments needed for MDS course is already furnished in the RGUHS regulations – 2004
LIBRARY: The college should have a central library with a provision of internet access, seminar rooms etc.Minimum of one Indian Journal and 03 International Journals with back volumes of minimum 3 years in each speciality.
SUPPORTING STAFF: Minimum of one Dental Mechanic in. the department of Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Orthodontia and Pedodontia & one hygienist in Pedodontia & Periodontia preferable. One staff nurse in each clinical department with centralized compressor, Gas plant and Air connection.
HOSTEL: S eparate girls and boys hostel in the campus with a provision of at least 50% of the BDS/MDS total intake.
STAFF QUARTERS: M inimum of 04, one each for girls and boys Hostel Warden, one Maintenance Engineer & Resident Medical Officer.
NOTE: Colleges started prior to Dentist Amendment Act 1993, if apply for increase in seat; BDS or MDS should fulfill the requirement as per the Dentist Amendment Act 1993.
However, colleges established prior to the Act, if applying for PG courses, all requirements are to be met except land of 5 acres.

1. Space: In addition to the BDS functional programme the following physical facilities shall be
made available to start postgraduate training programmes leading to MDS degree.
