WorldCat: The “basics”
• Start on the home page
• Enter a short phrase in the box
• Examine books to find Subject
Headings
• Examine articles to determine
databases they’re from
– Search those databases using
Subject Headings you’ve found
Beyond the basics:
Advanced Features• Create a personal profile to
save/share your searches
• Use the Advanced feature to
search for multiple subject
headings in a single search
• Use Advanced to locate a
specific journal or book by its
title (do this when you already
have a citation w/o fulltext)
WorldCat Personal Profile• After running a search, click a title to
open new screen
• Choose the “Share,” “Save,” or “Save
search” button (top of screen)
• Complete the “New Account” to sign up
• Once you’ve created your personal
account, login using the “Existing
Account” option
Things to do with your profile
Permalinks, Citations and Email
• Click on a title in the
results and then
choose to email the
page to yourself with
a permalink to return
easily to the page to
access the eBook or
eJournal article you
located in your search
“Find nearby libraries” feature
• If you don’t have time
for print materials to
be shipped, click on a
title, provide your zip
code, and find a
nearby library with the
item
