Journal articles in research represent the latest findings and developments within a specific field. If you are looking
for journal articles, choose a journal article indexing database. You can find these listed in the Subject Guides or
the A to Z Database list on the library’s web page.

Finding Journal Articles – Recommended Databases
Journal article databases index (and often provide full text of) journal articles. Below is a list of recommended
databases to use to start your searching. Try these first when researching topics for this class, but remember to
think out of the box and try any subject gateways that look intriguing to you.

General Tips for Finding Journal Articles

Check out subject tracings of articles that are on target to find additional search terms.
Truncate terms by using the asterisk (*) symbol to get all variations in spelling.
Use Find It buttons to access full text not visible on screen.
Use Interlibrary loan to request electronic copies of articles that are not owned here at Cook Library.
Find It tags and their Meanings
Read Full text at – click directly on the hypertext link to another database which will provide the electronic version of the article
Check availability Towson’s Cook Library – TU most likely owns a print subscription to this journal - open this link to see that catalog record and verify that the year you need is included in our subscription
Not available online – there is no electronic copy available
Check availability University of Maryland library – a USMAI library owns title –you can either visit that library to get a copy or request a copy of the article through Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
Request it through Interlibrary Loan – click on this link to fill out the form for an Article Copy Request
Off Campus Access to Electronic Resources
If you are accessing electronic resources from off campus, you will first need to log in as a TU user to gain access.
Use your Net ID information to do this.
Citing Resources Used in your Research
This class will be using the MLA Manual of Style for all research papers. The library has guides to help you put
together in-text and works cited citations. For assistance, go to the library web page and click on ‘Citing Sources.’
Then scroll down to ‘MLA Style’ to see guides with sample citations.
