Workshop Philosophy and Objectives: What we learnt and
what we did after the AUP workshop experience:
1. From AUI- One faculty member (Dr. Paul M. Love, Jr) and one
librarian ( Mr. Aziz E l Hassani) acquired an understanding of the
Framework and co-developed drafts for course outcomes based on
ACRL’s Framework.
2. After the workshop: The faculty and the librarian drafted an
implementation plan to integrate library instruction into an AUI’s
undergraduate course: ‘‘ HIS 1301 /1302 Fall 2017 History of the
Arab World” in the form of multiple information literacy
workshops. The goal is to co-teach the course in the upcoming Fall
session (2017).
3. The faculty and the librarian identified assessment activities for
the course learning.
Workshop Participants from AUI:

Professor of North African, Middle

What we learnt?
How to apply the Framework to our courses
How to draft a lesson plan, using Framework resources
How to assess the learning outcomes
Information Literacy Defined:
Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing
the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how
information is produced and valued, and the use of information in
creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities
of learning. (ACRL Framework)
Understanding the Information Literacy Frameworks for higher education.
ACRL stands for : Association of College & Research
Libraries
The first Information Literacy was adopted in
January 2016
The first ACRL introduced Information Literacy
Competency standards for higher education in the
year 2000
The 2016 Framework is a revision of those standards
The goal here is to use these frameworks to design
our own learning outcomes
The Frameworks is organized into six Frames which
we will be further explored in the next slide:
Frames are key
concepts that
must be grasped
in order to
develop genuine
expertise within a
discipline,
profession or
knowledge domain
Samples of working and reading materials from the AUP workshop
Sample practice exercise for integrating the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy into a course.
After the workshop : The implementation process.
Following the AUP workshop, we held five
subsequent meetings at the Library Q.A,
during which, Dr. Paul and I, reviewed his
entire course syllabus and class schedule for
Fall 2017; and we discussed the idea of
integrating the Information Literacy
Framework by the Association of College and
Research Libraries (ACRL) into his History of
the Arab World- HIS1301/02.
• The Results of these meetings shaped
the new strategic plan that will be
followed to co-design and co-teach a
fall-2017 course at AUI.
