This year has been filled with moments of euphoria as our students
excelled academically and athletically. We also shared sorrow, as we lost one
of our students last week. Services for Independence Edwards are scheduled
for Saturday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Camas High School Theater, and all
are welcome. Doors will open at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, the family has estab-
lished a bank account at Riverview Bank to benefit our drama department.
As we send our scholars off for the summer, we worry about those who
may be hungry, or sad, or alone. We have arranged for a Bereavement
Support Group to provide general support for those who are grieving. Within a
trusting and nurturing environment, participants will learn and grow in the
development of coping strategies. This will take place Monday, June 24,
4-5:30 p.m. in our Liberty Library. All are welcome, there is no charge, and
follow-up meetings will be planned depending on the participants needs.
(see page 6 for additional information)
I’m taking a few moments during our annual Paw Party to send this mes-
sage. Of course since we made the decision to put the Obstacle Course in the
gym due to the weather forecast of imminent rain, it’s a beautiful day outside!
You’re welcome! We’re sending our largest class ever to Camas and
Hayes Freedom High Schools. We’re welcoming a bunch of cute new 6th
graders –it was awesome to get to meet them, and we look forward to our 6th
Grade and New Student Orientation on August 27, 2:30-5:00. No offense,
parents, but it’s hard for us to let our kids go!
Thanks for sharing them with us!

Here is a photograph taken on Friday, May 17, documenting the
presentation of the Liberty Ship historic photograph to Liberty
Middle School in Camas, WA by the Camas-Washougal
Historical Society. Pictured left to right: Marilyn Boerke,
Principal; Richard Johnson, Board President, Camas-Washougal
Historical Society; and, Teague Schroeder, Student Body
President. Teague is in the 8th grade. The photograph shows
Liberty ships built in the Vancouver Kaiser Shipyards during
World War II. An anchor from the Liberty Ship, Davy
Crockett, is situated behind. Richard Johnson also presented a
book of the Kaiser Shipyards history compiled by Camas-
Washougal President Emeritus Curtis Hughey.
Marilyn Brown, Board Secretary and Publicity Chair, will write
an article and submit, along with the photograph, to the
Camas-Washougal Post-Record and our Society’s newsletter.

The race for the Athletic Academic Award is close. This is an annual team award given at Liberty for the highest team GPA. Currently the Liberty Lions Girls Cross Country team is leading with a 3.66 GPA.
After 3 seasons of competition 208 Liberty students have participated in athletics. They have a GPA of 3.45. This is a great example of why we call them student athletes.
Track will start on April 8 so get that paperwork in to Mrs. Reed.

A big thank you goes to the Liberty staff and the parents of these great kids for their support.

Dear Liberty Families,
This is Jean Hall, Liberty PTO President
By now, you have heard through your child, that they had a great time at our annual Paw Party! It was a huge success and I wanted to say thank you to those that were able to help out and come and support us at Liberty.
And to all those who brought watermelons, thank you!
If you have some time, and would like to donate in the way of being on PTO, we would like to hear from you. We are still looking to fill some chair positions like Staff Appreciation, Paw Party, March Madness. We also need help running Book Fair (we have two a year), and we are looking for someone to fill the Fundraising position. However, if you are unable to fill a position but would like to help out at any of our events, please email me so that I can add your name to our volunteer list for the 2013-2014 school year. If you are interested in a position or chairing a position, please email me and I will be happy to provide more details.
Thank you for considering supporting Liberty PTO!
Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Jean Hall PTO President 2012-2013

Liberty Middle School was excited to host 10 Polish students and their
chaperones from June 13th-24th. Our Polish exchange students
celebrated our year end activities here at Liberty, including our PAW
Party, Awards Assembly and Talent Show. Students were able to tour
our own downtown Camas, Fort Vancouver, and the Columbia Gorge
as part of our Sister City trips, while our gracious host families provided
extended experiences around our local area! We thank everyone who
opened their homes and families for our Polish Sister City visitors.
We are lucky to have this rich cultural opportunity for both our
Camas and Polish Sister City kids!
