Career Highlights (Job History/What led you to CG):I graduated from UH Manoa with a BS in chemistry and got referred by my professor to my first job as a chemist at a local Environmental Health and Safety laboratory. I stayed there for 5 years, working up to Senior Chemist. During that time, I gained 20lbs and started running with one of the owners of the lab. I lost the weight while training for and completing my first Marathon in 1989. I believe cross training is key to holistic wellness; so I started taking “aerobic classes” at the YMCA and 24hr Fitness. After a year, I was recruited to teach and I was “hooked”. I earned various fitness and personal training certifications while teaching at the Honolulu Club. After a year, I was hired as the Aerobics Coordinator for the Club and eventually moved gyms to become the Group Exercise and Personal Training Director at a private Gentlemen’s Club in downtown Honolulu. Seeing the need for more evidence based exercise instruction, I decided to go back to school to earn my Masters degree. I was hired by the USCG in June of 2000 as the Health Promotion Manager. Though the USCG eliminated the Health Promotion (HP) program in 2015, I was allowed to continue my current position managing and teaching local HP initiatives in D14 until being offered the position of Transition Relocation Manager in July 2018.

Goals (What defines success for me?): I have found my voice and want to help others find theirs. My greatest wish is that the people I serve are met with authenticity and truth. I believe that I am here to serve and help others discover the support and tools necessary for self-reliance and self-resilience. Balance and understanding your own Lokahi wheel spokes is critical for personal responsibility.
