Welcome Back! I am so excited to welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year and trust that you all took some time to relax and spend time as a family!
As I enter my first year as principal, I am excited to learn more about this wonderful community of learners and to meet you and your children. My husband, son, and I are also excited to be joining the Fundamental community as parents.
Please feel free to pop by the office or come up and introduce yourself and your family as you see me out in the school and on the playgrounds.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff for all of

Traffic Safety
It is again very important to emphasize to all parents that consideration and patience are necessary for the safety of the children and for our neighbours. The neighbours across from the school are very friendly and understanding and we need to make it a priority to be good neighbours in return.
Please do not block the roadway, driveways, fire hydrants or yellow lines along the curbs.
Additional Parking
The neighbouring church allows us to access their West parking lot for before and after school drop off. We ask that Kindergarten and Grade 1 parents use this parking lot. If you are staying past 9 am, please move your vehicle over to the school lot. The church asks that we not park for more than 15 minutes at a time.
We are so thankful that the church is letting us park, even during construction.
Please note signs designating church only parking and do not park in those spots!

Indoor Shoes
We are asking students to have a pair of indoor footwear to change into when coming in from outside. It could be a pair of runners that could also then be used for gym periods.
Text Books
We are asking that parents check for any textbooks that may have been left at home over the summer. The cost of replacing textbooks is high, so a quick return of them would be greatly appreciated!
Student and Parent Letter of Understanding
The fundamental philosophy provides a wonderful framework for student well-being and achievement. To confirm and celebrate this philosophy and the traditional values everyone has chosen in coming to this CHOICE school, we are asking that you review and sign the attached Letters of Understanding. This may be something you wish to do with your child, as they have been given the letter to sign as well. Please have your child return these letters to their teacher by Friday, September 25th.
Pets at School
If you are walking with your pet to school, it is very important that you keep your pet on a leash and under parental control at all times. Students should not be left to manage pets before or after school. We do have students who have allergies or are uncomfortable with pets in close proximity to them. No animals are to be permitted in the school or for show and tell, with out permission of the teacher.

review your child’s registration form to ensure all information is correct. Please make all changes in ink. Please pay particular attention to the Emergency/Earthquake information. This section indicates who can take responsibility for your child in the event that you are not able to get them in an emergency situation. Please return the SIGNED registration form before Monday September 14, 2015.
Aboriginal Ancestry
If your child has aboriginal ancestry (status, non-status, Metis, Inuit heritage), it is very important that you indicate this on his/her registration form for Ministry Funding purposes. These funds are not only used to support Aboriginal students but also benefit all students through Aboriginal cultural curriculum resources, projects, classroom presentations and field trips. If you would like further information please contact our Aboriginal Support Worker, Aimee Brooks, or call the Aboriginal Department at 604-888-4819 loc 231. A Self-Identification of Aboriginal Ancestry form was sent home this week. Please fill out this form ONLY if your child is of Aboriginal ancestry.
Library NewsDid your family take part in the summer reading program“Build It!” at your local library? Encourage your children to bring in their summer reading logs and they will be displayed on the bulletin board outside the library. Students will also be awarded a small prize if they completed a minimum of 5 weeks of summer reading. Our school wide home reading program will begin October 1st. Get ready for “Buggy For Books”!
Warm regards,
Lynda
