2. How to install Lexique Pro

Go tohttp://www.lexiquepro.com/

Once you are on the website, click onDownloadsat the top of the page

Then click onLexique Pro 3.2.3 setup (with demo db)

The demo will allow you to see an example of a Bambara dictionary (Mali)

It runs on Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP and Vista

Lexique Pro was developed by SIL in Mali, West Africa.

Lexique Pro is a freeware dictionary viewer and editor, with hyperlinks between entries, category views, dictionary reversal, search, and export tools.

It isdesigned so that linguists can distribute their lexicon data to the wider world.

What is Lexique Pro? 5. It aims at:

developing the worlds lesser-known languages

encouraging linguists to share their data freely with others

6. How does it work?

After having downloaded Lexique Pro and had a look at the demo, open the program and click onFileand then onCreate a new lexicon

You will then be asked the name of the language you want to create and its code

In order to find this code properly click onFind codebut be careful because the names of the languages do not come in the right alphabet order

Once you have found it click onOkand onNext

Choose the language(s) you want to use for definitions and glosses and click onNext

Then click on a language to set its properties if you wish or click onNext

You will then be asked tospecify whether or not you want to sort entries and choose which index tabs you want displayed. Click onNext

On the Language Markers page of the configuration, specify the characters that are used to identify the gloss languages in the field marker codes. (for example:efor English)

Look carefully at the markers and make changes if it is necessary and click onNext

Choose a name for your database and click onNext

Finally click onCreate

Delet eRecord name goes hereand enter the head word

Do the same for all the fields

To add a new record, click on the small iconInsert new record

To add new field markers, click on the last small iconInsert field

Click onToolsif you want to configure your lexicon

13. Additional features

If you wish to, you can even add one or more pictures for each dictionary record

Lexique Pro can also play audio files

14. Share your Lexicon

Click onToolsand then onDistribute Lexicon

Choose the lexicon you want to share and select what the user will be allowed to do within Lexique Pro
