Lewy Body Dementia 101 Lewy Body Dementia affects more than 1 mil-lion individuals in the United States. Now seen as the second most common dementia disease plaguing our nation, many professionals have very little knowledge or training on this debil-itating disease. This session will introduce professionals to Lewy Body Dementia, de-scribe common symptoms, and challenges that individuals face, and review best practices to include with care.

After the training seminar, all attendees will receive an evaluation trough e-mail Your feedback is critical and will help guide programming of future education events. To receive CEs participants are required to comply within the following: Training Seminar Registration and Attendance. During registration please identify if you will need a HFA or Social Worker CE. At the end of the seminar, participants will be required to fill out a online quiz and evaluation which will be sent to the e-mail address listed during registration. Participants have up to 5 working days to complete both quiz and evaluation. Participants will receive their CE certificate after the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care receives confirmation of completion of both quiz and evaluation. Please give 8-10 weeks to process. Explain Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) and how this
disease can imitate other dementia diseases– why so
many individuals are misdiagnosed
Give participants examples of common symptoms
( Dementia, Parkinsonism, Cognitive Fluctuations,
Visual hallucinations, REM sleep disorder, Sensitivity
to antipsychotic medications, Falls, Difficulty
maintaining involuntary functions, changes in
personality and mood.)
Present ways physicians use tests to diagnose Lewy
Body Dementia (LBD)
Identify ways professionals can provide better care
by building a care team that focuses on best
practices, and needs of those living with this disease.
Identify resources that organizations can utilize to
better their knowledge, and to provide the best
training for competent professional care staff.
Speaker Patricia Piechocki, CTRS, QMCP, CDCP is the Program Director of the Institute for Excellence in
Memory Care and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreational
Specialist who has worked in the memory care field for over
25 years. Certified through the National Council for
Therapeutic Recreation Certification; the Alzheimer’s
Foundation of America as a Certified Dementia Care Partner,
and is an Expressive Arts in Long Term Care Train the Trainer
through the University of Indianapolis.
Patricia specialties include development, and managing
specialized memory care programs, dementia care
programming, person centered dementia care, training and
consulting, resident assessment, mentoring dementia care
directors and activity staff, and volunteer development for
memory care.
