DESCRIPTIONVCU Tompkins-McCaw Library reviewed our current online presence, and developed a flexible and agile blueprint for improving our connection with our audience via social media. Graphic design: Taber Andrew Bain for VCU Libraries Presented in the Future topic session at the Medical Library Association (MLA) 2011 Annual Meeting in Minneapolis.
Our library developed a Social Media plan to help guide our activity in social media communities.
A component of this plan was to specify our target audience
We looked at how these tools interacted with one another because we wanted to make our message fit the medium
Initially we wanted to have one person from each department participate as social coordinators.
Two people were designated to manage the account so that if one went on vacation their would be a break in activity in the environment. Especially in environments such as twitter where timeliness is hugely important.
- We are not where we want to be but we are positioning ourselves to be key players as our university prepares for a major online initiative
Everyone does not want to participate
