DESCRIPTION

Cloud Computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer. Why? The use of the cloud lowers the technology cost of running your business by eliminating down time for upgrades to servers and applications, and software failures. This session will explain how this technology is possible and why your business should take advantage.

COMPUTER 101 – JUST THE FACTS

A computer is a general purpose device that can be programmed to carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically.

Acomputer consists of at least one processing element, typically a central processing unit (CPU), and some form of memory. The processing element carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a sequencing and control unit can change the order of operations in response to stored information.

Peripheral devices allow information to be retrieved from an external source, and the result of operations saved and retrieved

WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING?

In the simplest terms, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet.

Cloud Computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.

For it to be considered "cloud computing," you need to access your data or your programs over the Internet, or at the very least, have that data synchronized with other information over the Net.

WHY CLOUD COMPUTING?

With an online connection (INTERNET), cloud computing can be done anywhere, anytime.

Small businesses reap the benefits of not having to deploy physical infrastructure like file and e-mail servers, storage systems or shrink-wrapped software.

Built for collaboration with business partners and employees

Access to sophisticated technology (SaaS) without the need of an IT consultant or tech worker on the payroll

CLOUD COMPUTING DRAWBACKS?

cloud computing raises concerns about security, stability, and data ownership.

Service Outage Control Backup/vulnerability Egnyte and Rebit replicate data stored locally

on a hard drive to their cloud services, offering SMBs the best of both worlds: local control and access to data and peace of mind that the data is backed up to the cloud.
