Adding EDAdding ED

As we learned in lesson 27, suffixes added to a word change the meaning of the word.

When ed is added to the end of a verb it changes it to past tense.

Verbs in past tense tell about things that have already happened.

Adding EDAdding ED

Add ed to a regular verb to change it to past tense. If the word ends in e, just add d.

It snowed 16 inches last night.

Mom smiled at our snow angels.

The snow cream tasted good.

Adding EDAdding ED

If the verb end in y, change the y to an i and add ed.

They hurried to do do the wash.

The laundry dried outside.

Danny carried all the baskets.
