MissionThe Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies (GGS) is an interfaculty interdisciplinary researchcentre of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the KU Leuven (University of Leuven). In 2010,GGS has been recognized as a KU Leuven Centre of Excellence.

GGS carries out and supports interdisciplinary research on topics related to globalization, globalgovernance processes and multilateralism, with a particular focus on the following areas, takingthe many cross-cutting issues into account:

• The European Union and global governance• Human rights, democracy and rule of law• Trade and sustainable development• Peace and security• Emerging powers• Federalism and multi-level governance• Global commons and outer space• Non-state actors

GGS considers non-European perspectives to global governanceof great importance. It hosts the InBev-Baillet Latour EU-China Chair and the Leuven India Focus, organizes regularly transatlantic conferences and events focusing on Latin America and Asia, and takes a keen interest in the Global South.

In addition to its fundamental research, GGS carries out independent applied research and advisespolicy-makers on multilateral governance and global public policy issues. It regularly organizesconferences, seminars and debates on these issues, including the International Euro-Asia SummerSchool. GGS works with academic and policy partners from all over the world, including the EuropeanParliament, European Commission, European External Action Service, Committee of the Regions,International Labour Organization (ILO), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Conferenceon Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Bank and World Trade Organization (WTO).

GGS publishes the Leuven Global Governance Series with Edward Elgar Publishers, makes it researchavailable through academic journal articles, working papers, policy briefs and global governanceopinions on its web site and regularly publishes a newsletter.
