Blood..• Composed of red blood cells, white blood cells
plasma, and platelets• Each of this play a crucial role in our body• White blood cells fight infection.• Blood cells are formed in bone marrow.

• Type of cancer that is occurred due to abnormal production of white blood cells on bone marrow
• Four types : Acute lymphocytic leukemia : Acute myeloid leukemia : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia : Chronic myeloid leukemia
• National cancer institute has diagnosed that more than 40,800 adults and 4,500 Americans are diagnosed each year
Acute
• Abnormal cells grow rapidly
• Most often got by children• If the brain is affected:
Headaches, vomiting, confusion, loss of muscle control, seizures
• Other parts of the body affected: digestive tract, kidneys, lungs, hearts
Chronic• Grows slowly• May not have symptoms• Doctor might find during
regular blood test
Common Symptoms….
Risk factors
• High amount of radiation
• Exposure to dangerous chemicals; eg: benzene
• Chemotherapy• Genetic problems• Smoking
Diagnosis…• Physical examination• Blood test: high number of WBC and low
levels of platelets and hemoglobin• Biopsy: Bone marrow samples are removed
from hipbone or another large bone- Bone marrow aspiration- Bone marrow biopsy
• There are other tests that are ordered by your doctor depending on your symptoms
Treatment….
• Chemotherapy• Targeted therapy
• Biological therapy• Radiation therapy• Stem cell transplant
