Learning the ProgramThe best way to see all of the possibilities is to perform the steps in the
Quick Start lessons. Upon completing the Quick Start lessons, you will have usedall of the functions of the program and can start creating on your own.
In the process of going through the Quick Start, if you find you want to knowmore about the individual features used, refer back to the “Reference” section ofthis manual. Each feature is in alphabetical order and can be easily found.
You will find several other Quick Start lessons. Other features may beturned on or off, depending on the different plug-ins purchased for this platform.In this Lesson, we will only use the functions that come with Lettering Pro III.
Please make NOTE:In some cases the different products share features. In the case of Lettering
Pro III you will find the same features and abilities in the products below. Pleaseread and follow the Quick Start Lessons to take full advantage of your purchase.

In the following lesson. I am using Windows XP with the ScreenResolution set to 1024 x 768 pixels and a Color Quality of “Highest (32bit)”.It is not necessary to have your computer setup in the same way we cre-ated these lessons. You might find it easier to follow the lesson and thescreen shots knowing how our Windows XP is setup.

Quick Start I (Add letting to design for holiday fun)
In the Quick Start for Lettering Pro III, you will load a Jack-o-Lantern’sembroidery design and add “ Trick or Treat”. By the time you have finished thislesson you should have a good working knowledge on how Lettering Pro III works.
So lets get started and have some fun.....

2. Select design LP-QS-01-JackoLantern.mgl

4. Select “Babylock – Brother (Pes) 100 x 100and click on OK. (Figure LP-03)

6. Click the mouse in the center of the Jack-o-Lantern’s mouth. Notice the letter “A” appears andthe properties box for lettering appears. (FigureLP-05)
7. In the Lettering Properties box, replace the “A” with“TRICK” and click on “Apply”. (Figure LP-06)

8. Move your mouse to the letter “T” and with the leftmouse button, click and hold.
9. Move “TRICK” to the left where the letter “T” is, justunder the tooth of the Jack-o-Lantern.(Figure LP-07)

10. With your left mouse button Click and hold the leftmouse button down on the black diamond found atthe bottom left of “TRICK”.
11. Move the mouse to the left. Notice that we aresquashing the line of text to the left to fit within themouth. Make the word “TRICK” fit with in the Jack-o-Lantern’s mouth. (Figure LP-08)

12. Once you have the word “TRICK” placed, click theright mouse button in the center of “TRICK” andmove down to “Envelope” and select “BridgeConcave Top. ”Depending on where you previ-ously placed the word “TRICK”, you might need tomove the word up or down to make it look morepleasing to the eye. 13. Unselect the word “TRICK” by clicking any-where outside the design area with your leftmouse button. (Figure LP-10)
14. Notice that the “A” function is still selected.With your left mouse button click just underthe “T” in TRICK.
15. In the Lettering Properties box, replace the“A” with “TREAT”
16. Click “Apply”
17. Move “TREAT” just under TRICK. (Figure LP-11)
18. This time, with the left mouse button, clickand hold the black diamond at the top left of“TREAT”. (Figure LP-12)

19. Move your mouse to the right. Notice that theword “TREAT” becomes smaller proportion-ately.
Also notice as you make the height of the letterssmaller and let go of the left mouse button, the heightchanges in proportion. In this example, change theheight to where it is approximately 15 mm. (FigureLP-13)
20. Reposition the word “TREAT” as show inFigure LP-14.

21. With your left mouse button, click and hold on thegreen dot at the bottom center of “TREAT”.
22. Move the mouse down, curving the bottom of theletters. (Figure LP-15)

At this point we will add “RED” to our design andchange the color of our text.
23. At the bottom of the screen just to the left of thenumber “7” click the right mouse button and clickon “Add Color”. (Figure LP-16)

24. Double click on color number 8.
25. Select 2263 Foxy Red. This can be done byclicking on the color or typing in 2263 in the “FindNumber” box. (Figure LP-17)

28. Hold down the control key and click on the second“TEXT” object.

43. Once this is done, go to the drop down menu FILEand click on “Save As”. (Figure LP-29)
44. Save your design on your hard drive as an C2Sfile.
It is very important to save your design in this format justin case you wish to come back and edit something later.After it’s saved in C2S, then go back to Save As andsave it in whatever format your sewing machine uses.
36. Change the size of “OR” to 12mm by changing theheight in lettering properties or using the sizingicon (diamond), at the top left of “OR”. After sizing,you might need to reposition the text “OR” to thecenter of “TRICK” and “TREAT”. (Figure LP-25)

38. With the left mouse button, click and hold down onthe bottom center green circle. (Figure LP-26) Ifthe green dot doesn’t appear. then click on the “A”icon as shown in Figure LP-26.
39. Move your mouse up as shown in Figure LP-27.
