To the Chair of the Council on Environmenta Quality:
I am writing to voice my apposition to Presidn Bush's recent withdrawal from the Kyoto Protocoltreaty, a treaty which would reduce gldbal production of the greenhouse gases that areresponsible for accelerating global warmdig. As an American, who through my citizenship issomewhat responsible tar the United States contribution of over 25% of the world's production ofgreenhouse gases, I strotigly urge Vou lb br with wvorld leaders and the Piesident to reverse hisposition.
While President Bush's support of the US ekonomy and her industries is notable, I am concernedfor implications for the generations of Americn and other citizens of the planet who will reap thesad benefits of his policy. As a woman eniering my thirties and about to start my own family, Iknow that the generations that fallow will wate many economic storms, just as I have, and myparents, and my grandparents as well. Hdwvr while economic down-turns have predictableand ultimate up-turns, the same cannot be! aid for the world's environmental health. As you wellknow, harmful environmental decisions Myade today will have irreversible results for all theforeseeable future.
I urge you to advise the President Bush in making responsible decisions that will provide acleaner, safer and healthier place to live with clean air and water, for all Americans andinhabitants of this planet. Participation inan adherence to the previsously crafted Kyoto treatywould demonstrate the ability of Americart leadership to consider the welfare of not only itscitizens but those of the entire planet. Once again, I urge you to press President Bush to reversehis decision on Kyoto.
Very sincerely,
Katrina Strathmann
