Greetings,

My name is Jeffrey Harrington and I am excited to be seeking employment in your school

district as a visual art teacher. I am a graduate from the University of New Mexico and I taught art at

Eagle Ridge Middle School in the Rio Rancho Public School district until September, 23 rd 2016. I

also worked in the RRPS district while completing my student teaching. My mentor teachers taught

me a great deal while fulfilling my duties and working in their classrooms. I had the chance to

collaborate with supportive faculty at Rio Rancho High School and Colinas Del Norte Elementary in

developing my classroom management strategies, art lessons, demonstration methods, and public

speaking style during time at each school. Since January, 2012 I enjoyed teaching middle school

students art and art history. My family just relocated to Ohio to be near family and to assist with

some difficulties. I will miss my school and past students but I am also excited to meet new people

and work in a new place.

My skills are based in drawing and painting and I have shown and sold my work in art

shows, galleries, festivals and contests. I also have experience in hand-built and thrown ceramics, 3-

D design, collage, printmaking, photo/audio/video editing and music. I pride myself in my ability to

teach foundational skills while also providing opportunities for challenge and growth for advanced

students, allowing content to play a larger role in the projects. I also encourage students to explore the

same ideas/concepts in multiple works and mediums.

I rely heavily on personal demonstrations (with or without computers/document cameras) in the

classroom to give students a live, hands-on way to learn techniques, styles and methods in art. I also

believe it is essential to include historical examples of art from diverse times and cultures in art lessons.

Learning about different artists allows students of all skill levels to find a great artist to identify with,

perhaps unlocking their own potential at the same time.

I have recently received my Ohio Professional Educator’s license. I know things tend to shift at

any given time during the school year and I want to take the initiative in communicating my interest about

any art positions that may be opening. Please contact me right away if I can help ignite a love for art in

your school and community. I’m happy to email you sample lessons or photos of past work. Thank you

for your time.

Sincerely, Jeffrey Harrington
