Letter From the Headmaster Welcome to Calvary Christian School - home of the Calvary Knights! Why Knights? There is perhaps no better model on earth for our sons and daughters to emulate than the character, dignity and discipline of those who laid aside all other pursuits and comforts for the opportunity to align with, defend, and bring glory to their king. As children of the King of kings and Lord of lords we train ourselves and our children to follow the Knight’s Code (**): LIVE PURE! At all times we seek to ‘set apart’ our mind and heart; set apart so that our lives and our reputations are unencumbered by the stain of sin and regret. SPEAK TRUTH! Trust is built, relationships are transformed, communities are stronger, and God is honored when it is our habit and our reputation that we, the Knights of Calvary, speak the truth in love. RIGHT WRONG! There is no shortage of wrong doings: wrongs in our own lives as fallen souls who are saved by grace and in the world around us. Our world is still cursed by sin and still striving against the loving call of a just and gracious Heavenly Father. A Knight stands up for the oppressed, protects the helpless, and does all he can to reverse a culture steeped in darkness by insisting on righteous acts in himself and in those over whom he has influence. FOLLOW THE KING! Jesus Christ our Lord, Son of the Almighty God, is the only One worthy of our allegiance, the only One worthy of a life of sacrifice and consecration. So we look into His Word, we follow His example He set while He was on earth, and we make our community just a little better each day by influencing others, as many as we possibly can, to follow Jesus as their Savior and Lord. The Word of God is our source of all truth, and our guide for daily living. The Knight’s Code provides for our kids and for ourselves a succinct ideal which aligns with God’s Word and raises our expectations for ourselves and the generations to come who will walk through our halls. We invite you to join the Calvary Knights movement. (** with thanks to Robert Noland) PHOTO BY STEPHEN C. YOUNG Teaching the Whole Child the Whole Truth 1

Letter From the Headmaster

Welcome to Calvary Christian School - home of the Calvary Knights!

Why Knights? There is perhaps no better model on earth for our sons and daughters to emulate than the character, dignity and discipline of those who laid aside all other pursuits and comforts for the opportunity to align with, defend, and bring glory to their king. As children of the King of kings and Lord of lords we train ourselves and our children to follow the Knight’s Code (**):

LIVE PURE! At all times we seek to ‘set apart’ our mind and heart; set apart so that our lives and our reputations are unencumbered by the stain of sin and regret.

SPEAK TRUTH! Trust is built, relationships are transformed, communities are stronger, and God is

honored when it is our habit and our reputation that we, the Knights of Calvary, speak the truth in love.

Beginning leadership and impacting the future.

Elementary school at Calvary provides students with a sound preparation for higher education.

emphasis continues to be placed on instruction in a Christian environment, which begins in our early education Department. elementary teachers strive to foster a supportive atmosphere giving students the opportunity to develop independence and self-confidence while challenging them to think critically and to solve problems. Consideration is given to the development and nurture of the whole child — spiritually, academically, physically, emotionally, and socially.

S p i r i t u a l D E v E l o p m E n t

• The BIBLE, God’s Word to man, is the grid through which all learning is viewed. The curriculum offers a biblically integrated approach recognizing that all truth is God’s truth and the whole child must be taught the whole truth. The Bible is woven into the daily curriculum to help children understand and apply scriptural truths within their own lives. Daily Bible instruction, prayer, Scripture memorization, weekly chapel services, and positive adult Christian role models all help each child seek and develop a growing relationship with God.

a C a D E m i C D E v E l o p m E n t

• LANGUAGE ARTS is organized around the principle that language is the key to learning. in the lower elementary grades, students learn to read through systematic phonics instruction. The aim of rigorous grammar instruction is correctness and clarity in communication. Students are regularly exposed to wholesome literature that compliments the character-building emphasis of the school.

• The MATH CURRICULUM is designed to build a strong foundation in basic math facts and skills in order to progress to higher forms of mathematics. Students use manipulative materials and problem solving techniques that give real meaning to mathematics.

• The SCIENCE program is designed to develop a sense of curiosity, wonder, and enthusiasm about God’s wonderful creation in a variety of science areas. Children are encouraged to develop a sense of the processes inherent in scientific study.

• The SOCIAL STUDIES program encourages students to be historically informed, globally aware, and responsible active citizens. The goal is for students to gain a sense of God’s working in history.

• FOREIGN LANGUAGE is focused on teaching another language to our elementary students. An emphasis on the sounds of the language and exposure to the cultures of foreign countries fosters an appreciation for foreign language and people of diverse backgrounds.

• The TECHNOLOGY program emphasizes the computer as a valuable learning tool that enables students to expand traditional methods of learning. Computer classes integrate classroom studies while students develop skills in keyboarding, word processing, and research.

• Other subject specialists encourage students in the areas of music, library use, art, and physical education. These subjects are also treated as an integral part of each child’s overall educational development.

S o C i a l D E v E l o p m E n t

• Students are encouraged and afforded opportunities in a Christ-centered environment to develop skills essential for life-long learning. These skills include problem solving, clear and creative thinking, contributing to the community, producing quality work, and communicating effectively.

Bible classes are designed to point students toward a knowledge and acceptance of a biblical worldview that is both responsible and credible in light of Scripture. Students are led to an understanding of how biblical principles apply to situations they face today. Seniors culminate their academic experience at CCS by completing a comprehensive worldview study called “understanding the Times,” that is designed to equip them to be champions for Christ in the world.

Students have the opportunity to pursue their interests outside the classroom. School organizations encourage students to reach their goals and pursue their strengths. Class leadership positions also provide students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills. Annual events such as Homecoming, Junior/Senior prom and class-sponsored activities are enjoyed by all students.

preparing students for college is an essential part of the mission of Calvary. We seriously consider the need for God’s wisdom in working with students as they plan for the future. Our guidance counselor works individually with each student and their family to help them understand the reality of college admission, to develop a list of appropriate options, and work through the admissions process.

We work closely with the classroom teachers, school administrators, and parents to provide individual and small group instruction daily in the areas of:

• Mathematics

• Reading

• Language

The Discovery School (DS) believes in the uniqueness of every learner. Our purpose is to provide practical learning solutions for students who learn differently so they can attain their individual academic excellence as part of the complete community of CCS. We have created an atmosphere in which students are nurtured, encouraged, and challenged to explore their talents and use their strengths in order to reach their potential.

We have made great strides in providing support to students with varied learning styles, since we are unable to accommodate all levels of need for students who seek our assistance, we have developed a set of guidelines for use in the Calvary Christian School admissions process. These guidelines are subject to change as the appropriate resources are made available to us.

in order to be considered for acceptance into Discovery School and determine if the needs of the student are within the scope of our service capabilities, we require the following:

We are called to make disciples.

Calvary is committed to making disciples for Christ. Discipleship is a summons to follow Jesus completely in undivided devotion, commitment and dedication. When this happens, we understand the foundation of our beliefs and are ready to tell others of our commitment.

CCS puts God at the center of all we do from academics to athletics. We focus on discipleship of our students through the challenge to study and live out the Bible in their lives, and to influence others with the gospel. Some of the tools we believe will help guide our student body are:

• Chapel for all students with age appropriate speakers and music

• Teachers incorporating the Bible into all lessons and activities

• Teachers holding small group Bible Study

• Servant Leadership and volunteerism

• parent prayer Meetings
