To the Editor of the JOURNAL

IN MY ARTICLE "Savonarola and the Sixteenth-Century Motet," this JOURNAL, XXXVI (1983), 422-52, there is an error that has been called to my attention by Dr. L. Capra of the Biblioteca Comunale Ariostea in Ferrara. Line 6 of Giraldi's ode for Willaert (p. 439) should read as follows: "Et tibi aspiret Venus, et iuventa" (And may beauty and youth favor you).

To the Editor of the JOURNAL

BEETHOVEN HAUS AND BEETHOVEN ARCHIV, Bonn, in collaboration with the publishers G. Henle have decided to publish a new critical complete edition of letters from and to Ludwig van Beethoven. This edition will not be identical with that of Joseph Schmidt-Gorg, which was begun decades ago but never published. The publication will be taken care of by an editorial committee of Messrs Heinz Becker, Sieghard Brandenburg, Lewis Lock- wood, Maynard Solomon, Martin Staehelin, and Alan Tyson. The chief editor will be Martin Staehelin.

In order to attain an edition as complete as possible, and to be able to edit all texts after the originals, owners of autograph letters from or to Beethoven are courteously asked to support this project and to contact the Beethoven Archiv, "Briefausgabe," Bonngasse 18, D-53oo Bonn i. All references will be treated with the greatest discretion if wished.
