7/24/2019 Letter from Chesed Shel Emes to the Judge

10/13/2015
To the Honorable Judge VICTOR J. ALFIERI, JR. Rockland County Court
Your honor, as an organization dedicated to ensuring each person is treated
with respect and dignity even when they can no longer speak for themselves, Chesed
Shel Emes would like to thank you for the care and sensitivity with which youpresided over this case.
In his testimony, Mr. Steven Mendelson revealed that both his mother and his
father were buried according to Jewish tradition in Wellwood Cemetery.
Armed with this information, Mr. Philip Schonberger and Mr. Isaac Lieder
worked through the holiday weekend to obtain a plot in the same cemetery so Martin
Mendelson may be buried close to his parents. In many cultures, Judaism included, it
is considered preferable to be buried among loved ones. To be buried close to one's
parents also shows honor to them, something so important to many groups.
Not only were they able to arrange for a plot for Martin, but they have reserved
the plot next to him should Steven ever choose to be buried next to his brother, with
his mother and father nearby.
We hope this matter can be brought to a speedy resolution and Martin will
receive the final dignity he deserves, and which he fought to give his father as well.
Thank you for all your time, effort, and concern.
Sincerely,
Mayer Berger
Director of operations
