Etsushi Uchida, Mayor of Urayasu City

Cold days cont inue, but itʼs almost spr ing according to the calendar. Spring footsteps are approaching with the scent of plums.

In April last year, Tums Urayasu Hospital (Urayasu Rehabilitation Education Center, Chiba University Hospital) opened in 7-chome, Takasu.

Previously, we had to rely on hospitals outside the city to receive recovery rehabilitation care, but it can now be provided by the hospital located in our city. You can now return home completing both acute rehabilitation and recovery rehabilitation provided by the hospitals within our city.

In addition, this hospital has a consultation desk for higher brain dysfunction, which is one of the few in Chiba Prefecture.

Higher brain dysfunction is a problem that remains

in the brain due to stroke or accident, which interferes with daily life. Because it is diffi cult to identify from the appearance, there are many cases where even the person himself or his family does not recognize the problem, and it is said to be a “hidden disability.”

Symptoms vary depending on the damaged area, such as difficulty in speaking, understanding, and memory loss, and you will not be able to do what you normally did before the illness. This becomes a big barrier in daily life.

In addition to providing specialized medical care by doctors and clinical psychologists, this hospital helps the rehabilitation process by installing equipment such as driving simulators.

I feel that the foundation to strengthen citizensʼ security has been improved by the enhancement of the consultation and support provided by such hospitals in Urayasu City.

On the other hand, from next fi scal year, the city is planning to start a subsidy program for the medical

checkup expense of the brain. In addition to further enhancing the early detection

of illnesses, we will continue to develop a support system that will allow us to return to our normal daily lives after sickness.
