• In 1970, on 28% of jobs required postsecondary education

• In 1970, 74% of the middle class was high school graduates and dropouts

• In 2007, on 23% of the middle class was high school graduates, and only 8% were dropouts

• In the same period, the percent of middle class Americans with college degrees increased from 26% to 69%

To be a good citizen, it's important to be able to put yourself in other people's shoes and see the big picture. If everything you see is rooted in your own identity, that becomes difficult or impossible.
