GREAT JOB!
Semibreve
New learning
Dotted MinimA note that last for 3 beats. A dot after a note increases its length by half of its original length, so without the dot this note lasts for 2 beats, adding the dot means it is 2 + 1 = 3 beats.
Can you spot the difference between these two note values?
Note Value Maths WITH Dotted Minims
Can you have a go at these musical equations at home?
Independent Work 1/2
This is the first sheet I would like you to complete.
This will help you understand our new note value.
There is a tutorial to follow on the next slide.
Tutorial
The music note at the top (circled in red) tells us what we need to match it too.In the first example, I know that the a dotted minim is equal to 3.I then look at the other circles to see if the notes inside also add up to 3.The ones that add up to 3, I connect to the dotted minim with a line.
For the next example, I look at the music note at the top (circled in blue) so I know what the note value will be.I know that a semibreve is equal to 4.I then look at the other circles to decide what also adds up to 4 and then connect them to the semibreve with a line.
Independent Work 2/2
This is the other sheet I would like you to complete.
You need to look at the equations and decide if they are correct or not.
Tick if it is true.
Cross if it is a false.
Extension
If you finish the first 2 sheets and want to do more, here is a bonus extension sheet.
Colour the crabs in the correct colour by looking at the note value.
Well Done
