Lessons learnt
• Why are you doing this?– Is there a more efficient way of presenting your
images?– Is there a less expensive way of showing your
images?• Who is the target audience?– Family–Wedding couple– Yourself– Business venture
• Draft a simple project plan– How many books to you want to produce?–What size will they be A4, A3, A5?–When do you have to have the final book
completed by?– How many pages are you considering including?–What software will you use and how can you get
it?– Are you going to have a dust cover on each book?–Will there be text or an image included on the
cover?–Quality of paper required
• Will the cover have text on the spine or on the front?
• Do you intend to emboss the cover text?• What colour will you have for the cover and pages?• If you include text how will you proof read for
spelling erros?• With the software you select can you often
download a galley proof of your final product?• Are your images selected and if so are they
formatted and ready for inclusion?• If possible view a book that has been completed by
a fellow photographer and ask them lessons learnt• Prepare a budget of costs
• Select the software and download it.• Place your images in a separate directory on
your hard drive for easy access• Undertake a test run by selecting a few images
and placing them in the pages.-Get the feel for the software. Don’t dive in.
• Do not clutter the pages with a lot of images.• Be consistent with formatting– If you include text ensure the fonts and colour are
the same– Headings and footers should ideally be in the
same place on each page
When the first draft book has been completed get an independent to critique it for you.
