JUST. SAY. NO!!!

Volunteering is wonderful, but you will get overloaded quickly. It is okay to politely decline….everyone has been where you are and they understand! Take this year to take it all in, then add things in the years to come

YOUR CLASSROOM…YOUR RULES

What I did right

Nothing.

What I did wrong

Everything.

My best advice…Say what you mean…and mean what you say.Have it in your syllabus and on your walls…………EVERYWHEREBe consistentDocumentDo NOT argue with a studentDo NOT tolerate disrespect……when to ignore, when to address privately, when to shut them down.Sarcasm and a smile go a long wayUSE YOUR COACHES AND PARENTS!!Disguise notes to parents Don’t take it personal-they are children….even if they are taller than you.

QUICK REFERENCE….LEARN FROM MY RIDICULOUS MISTAKES

No major projects due the last two weeks of the quarter.

Admit when you are wrong. Ask for help! Watch all videos and movies

before you show them and have them bookmarked. (Worksheets to fill out during movies with random questions work great for sleepers)

Follow the dress code Set high expectations and do

not compromise them

Have a set time before or after school on certain days for extra help. You do not have to plan your life around the students’ sports schedule.

Have a retake contract Teach them manners,

forgiveness, mercy, and kindness

Do not feed the animals

HELPFUL HINTS Chocolate and thank you cards. Keep snacks and a case of bottled water Celebrate success- and make them do it too! Have boundaries for your desk Child slave labor Don’t run your mouth to other teachers Have someone you TRUST that you can talk to Have fun and be silly! Participate in dress up days!!

WHAT THEY DON’T TELL YOU… Non-emergency emergency

reports…. Instructional day myths…. Oh, by the way….. What planning period? Classroom phone Have you checked your email? Plan B Counseling

appointments
