In the previous terms they covered basic Spanish vocabulary and sentences relating to greetings, colours, numbers, everyday objects, likes and dislikes. This is the second lesson on food. The first lesson was introducing the names of fruits and vegetables and learning to express their likes and dislikes. Teaching Objectives: To ask for certain drinks and snacks. Context:

This is the first year that this class takes Spanish. Planned Content/ lesson outline

Greetings. Re-cap on previous lesson. What did the children learn? What can they remember? Teacher assessment- who remembers what.

Present new vocabulary in the interactive whiteboard. Get the children to repeat it with accuracy. Explain words and meaning. Use flashcards as well to recap knowledge. Teacher assessment by checking who is remembering and pronouncing accurately.

Matching exercise. Provide children in groups copies of pictures and written names. Ask them to match the words with the pictures and practice pronunciation Teacher assessment- who is matching correctly.

Divide class into 2. Ask children to show picture in response to a statement I make.

Show children how to ask for food and practice sentences.

Children to work in pairs asking each other what they would like to have.Children in pairs to demonstrate the dialogue.

PLENARY Quick re-cap, ask specific children the name of foods. Self assessment- children to show thumbs up if they feel they have achieved the LO, thumbs to the middle or thumbs down.

Differentiation:

Children to learn new vocabulary in mixed ability pairs using cards with words. Class teacher to work with specific SEN children. Teaching assistant to work with specific children with lower ability. Spanish teacher to work with the rest of the children.

Assessment:

Informal assessment based on observations made when helping children. Class teacher and Spanish teacher to notice and encourage responses from different groups. Self assessment – children to self assess using thumbs up if they have achieved the LO, thumbs to the middle or thumbs down.

Extension:

Children spell words for foods in Spanish. Children have a longer conversation with the waiter.Vocabulary
